Obama Clinches Vote to Secure Iran Nuclear Deal - 9/2/2015 8:16:23 AM

Status: offline 		WASHINGTON — Senator Barbara Mikulski of Maryland on Wednesday came out in support of President Obama’s Iran nuclear accord, the 34th Democrat in favor. Her announcement gives Mr. Obama the votes to assure the deal will survive a Congressional challenge.

“Some have suggested we reject this deal and impose unilateral sanctions to force Iran back to the table. But maintaining or stepping up sanctions will only work if the sanction coalition holds together,” wrote Ms. Mikulski, the longest serving female senator in history.

“It’s unclear if the European Union, Russia, China, India and others would continue sanctions if Congress rejects this deal. At best, sanctions would be porous, or limited to unilateral sanctions by the U.S.”

Ms. Mikulski’s decision came a day after Senators Chris Coons of Delaware and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania also announced they would support the deal.

The White House and Senate Democrats next week hope to filibuster a Republican resolution that would attempt to stop the Iran accord. If seven more senators come out in support, the resolution would never leave the Senate, and Mr. Obama would not be forced to use a veto.

What else is the USA to do, go to war with the only stable Islamic country in the region? Iran is also the main fighter / player v. ISIS. Even if the USA backed out, the other nations in the agreement would abandon continuing the sanctions.

You are not on the moral high ground here. You bitch about 1979 in Iran but you forget 1953 that caused it. You forget that Saddam was installed in Iraq, replacing whoever they chose back then. You forget that we sold Saddam that gas. Also, most of you are ignorant of the fact that they KNOW Assad did not use the gas because what was used is known to Porton Down as NOT being the type they sold him. And guess who sold Saddam gas.

Quantitative Easing, which means propping the stock market up to fool you regular people into keeping your money in that totally fools venture. You don't seem to realize that all that money ultimately comes from YOU.

Like people who cheer when a company is fined, YOU PAY THAT. The owner, board of directors, whatever, ;they who did the infraction pay absolutely NOTHING. It is called a corporate shell. I shields you.

Status: offline 		Whatever the feeling in Washington it is pretty clear that the rest of the world, and indeed, the rest of the West is strongly supporting this agreement with Iran. I am sure that there was a collective sigh of relief in Western capitals when it was announced that the Right would be unable to gather enough votes in the Senate to torpedo the deal.

Just another measure of how out of touch and hawkish American politics are compared to the rest of the West. I shall enjoy watching the US Right rage helplessly against the agreement. Almost as much as I will enjoy those arch war mongers, the US Right and Israel, huff and puff themselves into international irrelevance.

If I was American I would be asking myself: "how much is it going to cost the US taxpayer to bribe Israel into acquiescence?" It will interesting to see the dollar figure that will turn the alleged existential threat to Israeli existence into begrudging acceptance of the agreement ...... Of course it's a really odd kind of existential threat that can be bought off by a third party, so US taxpayers will be forgiven for wondering whether the whole exercise was just another Israeli attempt to enrich themselves at the expense of their "closest friend and ally".
