I think generally the German system is deemed to be the superior of the two, and that system makes much more sense to me. I think children should be given the room to be children when young. It's a long life and there's plenty time for people to work themselves into the ground!

At that age I think an hour a night is more than enough time. 20 hours on the weekend to me is just assinine. As others have pointed out, most college kids don't go that far. At the college I went to, they suggested 2 hours of study for every hour the class met. Now I suppose if you never did any work during the week, then you would have a lot more for the weekend but most of the kids I knew didn't put it off. It's also going to be different for every person. Depends on how well they study.
