Lucylastic -> Minister Fights For Right To Counsel LGBT Juvenile Offenders That They’re Going To Hell (7/29/2015 8:11:38 PM)

The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) has a policy (Policy 912) that requires that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and intersex (LGBTQI) juveniles be treated with respect for their identities. A minister who volunteered to work with young people at the Warren County Regional Juvenile Detention Center is now challenging that policy after his services were revoked because he refused to comply with it.
Minister David Wells of the Pleasant View Baptist Church in McQuady, KY is represented by the anti-LGBT Liberty Counsel, which sent a letter to the DJJ on his behalf threatening legal action if the policy is not lifted and Wells reinstated. Wells refused to sign a statement promising to refrain from ever telling juvenile inmates that homosexuality was “sinful.” Specifically, the policy requires that volunteers not use “derogatory language in a manner that conveys bias towards or hatred of the LGBTQI community” and that they “shall not imply or tell LGBTQI juveniles that they are abnormal, deviant, sinful, or that they can or should change their sexual orientation or gender identity.”
Superintendent Gene Wade outlined how Wells could comply with the policy, explaining, “You can give a scripture reference to the kids, and let them look it up, but you can’t read it in their hearing. You can’t say ‘sinful'; you can’t discuss sexual orientation — heterosexual or homosexual — period.” These terms were not satisfactory for Wells to continue his volunteer work at the detention center

In 400 pages of Scripture, this "minister" can't find anything else to preach about?

The scriptures are no help. I mean just what the hell are 'the scriptures ? Even the so-called orthodox when it suits them, choose not to believe half of them.

Hell, they condoned or at least often made reference to or advised for the continuing genocide, incest, polygamy and slavery. Maybe they were just all about getting the 'other' guy while enjoying and propagating your own.

that you think there is only one person like that shows that you obviously know nothing.
Not surprising at all dear, look at the Liberty Counsel, there are hundreds of them...they exist purely to help people like the dick wad in the story

now if you have anything to add to the topic beyond this particular bait method, have at it.

I'm in awe of Kentucky's policy, quite frankly. I wouldn't have expected it there. Obviously I need to rethink the Bluegrass State a bit.

The policy makes perfect sense though. Considering these are already obviously very troubled youths, feeling unloved & unwanted, being told that God can't even love them likely wouldn't help matters at all.

Kids need hope & love, not fire & brimstone.

I posted this somewhere else already, but I think it fits in here as well.

I liked the this part
quote:

"Don’t tell me what the bible says about homosexuals and you change wives like we change underwear. Sit yourself, your hypocritical self, down.”

I've always heard that one of the most basic requirements of counsellors is that they refrain from judging the people they are attempting to help. So this self righteous prick seems to fail the first test. As he's carrying so much hate and bigotry around it might be the case that he could benefit from some good counselling himself.

Fighting for the 'right' to judge young people in trouble, to insist that they are sinners in the fast lane to Hell seems to me to be a complete waste of everyone's time and money. I can only hope that if this sanctimonious moron is inflicted on Kentucky's troubled queer youths they have the good sense to tell him to take an almighty jump off the the nearest cliff, in language of their own choosing. If he's going to judge them so pejoratively there's no obligation on them to spare his feelings when they return the compliment is there?

Interesting quote, K. How do you apply it to the thread topic?
