Right. Let's all take the fast-train to Simplesville. [:D]

KenDckey -> RE: Latest Global Warming News (7/15/2015 6:02:00 PM)

No DS We must ban water sources. Drain them all and ship the water (Including the ocean) to california. In AZ we are accustomed to desert. California is having the real issue Cali doesn't have to follow the rules LOL

I don't know Kirata but with all the scientific speculation and evidence out there, and the at least possible disastrous results if true, why did the Republican house let the committee expire? You think that was not political?

Speculation is the precisely the correct word here, "evidence" not so much. The CO2 hypothesis is effectively non-falsifiable. We cannot model the Earth's climate. We haven't even remotely the level of sensor saturation required; even if we did, we haven't sufficient computing resources to run the model in less time than that for which we seek a prediction; and even if we had the resources, the model would blow up due to the precision limitations in floating point calculations. The IPCC knows this. That quote I posted is from their Third Assessment Report. So I'll leave you to do the political math yourself.

As much as I admire your intellect I do not believe you have the expertise to speak in such absolute terms...Your contentions are opposed by some of the most respected climatologists… oceanographers…earth scientists…and meteorologists in the world. But I will go so far as to say there is certainly need for more research before we start expensive reduction programs if it is even possible. And certainly we can not do this unilaterally. This must be a world wide effort applied to every one equally...no exceptions for developing third world economies... all or nothing.

Ferchrissake Butch, I'm quoting the fucking IPCC.

kdsub -> RE: Latest Global Warming News (7/15/2015 8:01:15 PM)

I choose to go by THIS from the IPCC.

"Human influence on the climate system is clear, and recent anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse
gases are the highest in history. Recent climate changes have had widespread impacts
on human and natural systems. {1}"

"Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, and since the 1950s, many of the observed
changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia. The atmosphere and ocean have
warmed, the amounts of snow and ice have diminished, and sea level has risen. {1.1}"

"Anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions have increased since the pre-industrial era, driven
largely by economic and population growth, and are now higher than ever. This has led to atmospheric
concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide that are unprecedented in
at least the last 800,000 years. Their effects, together with those of other anthropogenic drivers,
have been detected throughout the climate system and are extremely likely to have been
the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century. {1.2, 1.3.1}"

"In recent decades, changes in climate have caused impacts on natural and human systems on
all continents and across the oceans. Impacts are due to observed climate change, irrespective
of its cause, indicating the sensitivity of natural and human systems to changing climate. "

Changes in many extreme weather and climate events have been observed since about 1950.
Some of these changes have been linked to human influences, including a decrease in cold temperature
extremes, an increase in warm temperature extremes, an increase in extreme high sea
levels and an increase in the number of heavy precipitation events in a number of regions. {1.4}

"Continued emission of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and long-lasting
changes in all components of the climate system, increasing the likelihood of severe,
pervasive and irreversible impacts for people and ecosystems. Limiting climate change would
require substantial and sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions which, together
with adaptation, can limit climate change risks. {2}"

"Surface temperature is projected to rise over the 21st century under all assessed emission
scenarios. It is very likely that heat waves will occur more often and last longer, and that
extreme precipitation events will become more intense and frequent in many regions. The
ocean will continue to warm and acidify, and global mean sea level to rise. {2.2}"

Global Warming - Dr. Gavin Schmidt Versus Dr. Roy Spencer
https://youtu.be/V96k4BO2sBw

Schmidt refuses to debate, because Spencer is a bad evil Christian... Who just happens to be the lead scientist on NASA's best instrument for MEASURING, NOT PONTIFICATING ABOUT, global average surface temperatures. Also, because he's a whiny halfwit who got his ass kicked in a debate about this by Dr. Lindzen and company, way back in 2007. Here's the video.

http://intelligencesquaredus.org/debates/past-debates/item/559-global-warming-is-not-a-crisis

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Lindzen

For those of you who are, how shall I say, special, that means Lindzen knows more about how the atmosphere will behave and react than probably anybody else on Earth. You probably haven't heard of him because he's boring and states plainly that he doesn't know what the fuck the climate is going to do, even on a year to year basis. And he's right, but that doesn't generate tax revenue for the rent seekers. And here we are.

So. If we die from the heat you win. If we die from the cold I win. I'd like to change the game.

Just call the scientists that disagree with you (even if it's the vast majority of scientists) "socialist" (even if you're too fucking clueless to have the vaguest notion of what that term actually means) and "hey presto".

Fuck me, how many keyboards do you destroy each week with your drool?

The thing that tells the tale that needs to be told here is how leftists routinely have to rely on ad homimens and other debate fallacies to defend their positions

You drooling stain.. No actual answers still... just parroting your usual bullshit.

Is it time for your diaper change?

MercTech -> RE: Latest Global Warming News (7/25/2015 12:59:36 PM)

Meh... CO2 isn't a pollutant but increasing the percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere is like putting a nice fluffy blanket on the planet... and the median temperature goes up.

Anyone screaming "the poles are melting" and other worst case scenarios is probably gaming for grant money.

The shift in the chemical balance in the atmosphere brought about by re-introducing carbon into the atmosphere bound up in the ground for millions of years will cause a shift in climate because the balance point of the equilibrium has been shifted. There will be oscillating conditions until things settle out. Reduction in fossil fuel burning, at least not increasing the use, will let things settle out faster.

One measurable facet of "global warming" has been measured in the growth rate of tropical forests (up by 15% by one study). Plant species are viable at more northern latitudes that were not viable formerly. Rice in Iowa and Kudzu in Missouri pop to mind.

There isn't a "global warming industry" except among fear mongers trying to game the politicians for money. We need to find alternate fuel sources since fossil fuel is a finite resource. We will adapt to global warming and climate change but there will be pains with adaptation. What we don't need are the blithering dummies given credibility... You know the type.. the ones that think using paper is damaging the rain forest (paper comes from softwood tree farms) and think having a wood burning fireplace in your home is increasing carbon loading (part of the natural cycle, dummy).

Things are changing. Denying it is buying into false security of ignoring verifiable data. Neither is going into a panic mode and taking draconian measures to stop current industry in its tracks.

We need long term viable alternatives to fossil fuels. And we need to quit throwing money out of the public coffer at pie in the sky tech that actually creates more problems than they solve.
> Solar power never generates as much power as it takes to make the solar cells. Tax incentives for solar generation at the current state of the tech is throwing money away. Spend the money on research to increase the efficiency of solar and lower the energy cost to manufacture.
> Electric cars generate more carbon loading than internal combustion engines. It just isn't dumped on the road with you. Get some reality into the equation and quit throwing subsidies at a tech that makes the problems worse rather than being a solution.
> Reduce the road blocks to small producer bio-diesel. (Currently, you need an ATF license to manufacture bio-diesel for your own use)
> Some research grant money for small scale fuel cell development. The current research funding is only for large scale, power the hospital or gov't building type of systems. What is really needed is some scalable units that can power vehicles or homes.

Too bad our political system only rewards being glib and charismatic with no reward for having any intelligence or wisdom.
