Heaven only knows, and the answer probably varies by person.
If someone is thinking about joining the military then its their own fault if his/her expectations are different than reality, especially in this day and age with google and the internet, forums, etc.. or seek out some vets/military/deserters and ask them what its really like and would they do it again? Honestly, when you do something where it could mean your life or being badly wounded like losing an arm/leg, and then the govt kicks you to the curb when you need help, people that join without thinking first arent the smartest.. I knew there were some deserters but i was surprised the number was as high as it is.. so now they are deserters, they will not get the benefits they thought they would get since they will be dishonorably discharged and go to prison for several years.. I dont know what kinda record that gives them, if it hinders them in future employment, etc.. Oh well..
