Just so you know, the "menstrual cup" runs $40 so you had better hope that you choose the correct size the first time. It also may need liners to be worn with it. And it does not work for everyone. I, for one, would not be able to use it. Even if I wanted to use the icky thing.

She offered to show me. I declined. Just not my thing.

However, depending on the material and cleaning practices, it can last a year (recommended replacement yearly) or over a decade. I don't know how much the disposable options cost (I'm neither a girl, haven't bought any for my wife (now ex) in many years, and don't have a daughter), so I can't say if $40/year is a good value. The gal I was with got hers through her Dr., so I don't know if there was a different cost, or even if there was insurance coverage for it. Either way, it was sized through her Dr.

I don't consider making a government so,powerful that it can grind any person under its heel and then have that government take things from one group, keep a substantial portion of the confiscated stuff to feed itself and then dispose of the rest so that it can buy votes to stay in power moral.

Not only do Liberals want to confiscate money from those who earned it and give it to those who didn't, but they rest on the "They didn't earn it, so they shouldn't get to keep it" argument to support a higher "death" tax. Talk about hypocrisy! They want to confiscate more money via the estate tax because the heirs "didn't earn it," to help distribute more to those who didn't earn it.
It's a fucking shell game.

omg.. how many actually pay estate tax? anyone with more than the amount where it kicks in has at least 1 trust (I know someone with 3 trusts!).. if you have money where the estate tax kicks in and you dont have a trust you are a total moron.. Rich people have the money to pay tax lawyers to keep any tax they pay (both when alive and when dead) down to the bare minimum.. do you have the luxury of hiring a tax lawyer to do that for you? no, you (you as in the 99%) go to H&R Block and get shitty (& very possibly incorrect) tax advice.. Every time the govt makes a move to tax the rich, the rich find 3 counter moves that gut the tax they would have paid..

So, these taxes are only paid by the morons. Is that what it's supposed to do?

That's not even the point, though. All those riches have been taxed already. It's private property, and should be protected, not chiseled at.

sure, just as income is taxed already but then chiseled at with the various taxes and fees imposed by all levels of govt.. why should anyone pay a sales tax to spend money they already were taxed on? you cant oppose one chiseling and ok another chiseling.. its people with no or low incomes that are hardest hit by the sales tax and other taxes/fees, much more so than the chiseling of estate tax (which can be sheltered if the rich that are morons didnt shelter).. and yeah, you have to be a moron to not shelter extreme wealth, its not like the govt is gonna spend that money wisely.. if you are gonna lose that money then ffs at least give it to a worthy and legit charity to do real good in the world..

You miss the point that size sales tax would replace other federal taxes.

oh ya big chicken! [:D]

I tried a diaphragm once.. what a nightmare.. so that thingie wouldnt work for me either and its just too icky to contemplate.. I just think its really sleazy & wrong to tax an item that is essential like "girl things".. You are being penalized for being female for most of your entire life.. I actually consider it sexist..

Sure, a 5-7% sales tax isn't going to have a consumption reduction effect, unless you're really tight in the cash flow area. Imagine, however, what a 16-23% sales tax would do. Granted, you'd have all your income to pay that sales tax, but, a $4 pack of smokes, just became a $5 pack of smokes. That $10 12-pack just went from $10.70 to $12.30. That $75 bottle of scotch just went from a final cost of $80.25 to $92.25. You don't think people will start watching what they buy?

I dont think so.. people will buy the smokes and scotch just as they always have, those are more along the lines of addictions (triple the price and they will still buy that stuff!).. Come on, look at what people pay for their no-fat Starbucks latte with triple cream and sprinkles!.. they are lined up out the door! but even for things that are luxury.. i think they will still buy them but they may switch to a cheaper brand or whatever to keep the total cost in their budget (or just put it on their Visa card & deal with the headache later lol).. I come from BC and the total sales tax (PST + GST) there is 12% (i think reduced from 13%?) and some provinces are as high as 15%... There are a lot of hidden taxes as well in Canada, hidden in the price of gas, booze, stuff like that.. apparently a pack of smokes in BC costs at least $10 now.. people are still gonna buy em..

Taxes are sexist now?!? [8D]

Under that argument, one could argue that income shouldn't be taxed because it is "essential." [:D]

I think the Starbucks thing is more about the "aura" of drinking Starbucks, rather than just some home-brewed coffee; like it's a statement more than anything else. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy Starbucks coffees. They are damn good (my all-time preference, however, is Gevalia coffee). I was disappointed when I went to Tim Hortons and my expectation of a Starbucks-esque coffee wasn't even close to being met. Panera has better coffee than Tim Hortons. Anyhoo...

Rising costs will end up causing a reduction in consumption. If that rising cost is due to taxes or manufacturing costs, it doesn't really matter. It might have to rise substantially, but it will eventually have an impact. I quit smoking when the cost of a carton was $20 ($2/pack). I quit, in part, because of the cost. I can't tell you how much a carton costs anymore. I don't even look.

If you're not including the cost of sales taxes when you're planning purchases, you aren't planning right.

that is the way i feel about tax on girl stuff.. women have to have the babies, have to nurse and take care of them and do most of the raising of them and then we get taxed on essential girl stuff! damn right its sexist!

Income is essential, you need at least a minimal amount just to survive (if you dont have that you usually end up homeless and starving).. I dont think anyone should pay tax on income at and under the amount you need to have the basics (food, shelter, etc) in the city you live in.. so yah, a minimal amount of income is also essential.. Glad we agree!.. [8D]

Obviously many people havent been planning right or the credit card corps & credit industry wouldnt be making the big profits they are.. I have to say that i am glad i decided as a teenager not to smoke or drink (very often).. I really hate paying for things like that and then tax on top of that? [:o].. and while i do sometimes go to starbucks i have just hot tea as the price i pay for their "free" wifi.. I only go there cuz it is the best free wifi of any since its fast, its not restricted and you can sit there all day long surfing if you want to, I dont go there cuz i want hot tea!.. [:D] I am really stingy and dont like to pay for eating out either.. some people spend all their discretionary money on restaurant meals every day... then they wonder why they dont have any savings.. Actually, when the Great Recession hit, it was really eerie walking into almost any fast food joint/restaurant.. there was hardly anyone there in former busy and packed places.. people who lost their jobs, houses, etc no longer had that money to spend..

Women do most of the raising, at least initially, because they have a lock on the food source (unless formula feeding). Anything past that is societal mores. It's too bad, too, because Dad's do have a vital role to fill.

We definitely agree that income is essential. But, how much is essential? Please try to stay objective in your defining what is and what isn't essential income. Subjective definitions are at risk to be redefined by politicians paid by lobbyists, and I'm sure we agree that the influence of Big Money in politics isn't a good thing.

I would sometimes stop for a Starbucks at a rest stop along the I-80 Turnpike in Ohio if I was getting tired. I could have gotten McD's coffee, but Starbucks Grande Mocha Latte is delicious and I treated it as a treat beyond it's waking utility. lol

I hear you about eating out eating into one's savings. Eventually, though, the cost of eating out would prohibit continuing to eat out. Your anecdote about the eeriness of restaurants is proof of that. It's also proof that if you raise the cost of something (even if it's just raised relative to what you have), consumption will tend to decrease.
