joether -> Mathematics not a requirement in the Tea Party (3/26/2015 2:39:03 PM)

With all the talk about education and Common Core, its a good idea that our role models in public office known how to handle mathematics, right? Since they are often the guys that decide on the federal budget. Unfortunately we have one less person whom should not be taken seriously again:

Dallas Rep. Pete Sessions recently claimed:

"If you just do simple multiplication, 12 million into $108 billion, we’re talking literally every single recipient would be costing this government more than $5 million per person for their insurance,” said Sessions, chairman of the House Rules Committee."

$108 Billion divided by 12 million, is $9,000.....

In a time when Republicans and Tea Partiers are getting laughed at for being stupid and unwise; this doesn't help their case. Shouldn't conservatives and libertarians demand more from their elected officials? To sound more intelligent and educated than a Common Core dropout from Texas?

Perhaps the GOP/TP should hire some actual mathematicians and accountants. Failing that, use a calculator. They come with every smartphone and computer these days!

Well common core is a pretty much 'republican' governors deal from start to finish. Its why Johnny can't add.

It's getting to be a tough choice between the idiots and the liars.

Interesting. And yet:

the Common Core State Standards...were released in 2010 by the bipartisan National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers.

http://www.quora.com/Why-do-some-Republicans-dislike-the-Common-Core

Call it the Coalition of the Unwilling.
Groups ranging from the billionaire Koch Brothers on the right to elements of Occupy Wall Street on the left have found common ground against the Common Core Curriculum standards, the White House-backed initiative to bring 21st-century reforms to the American education system.
http://www.usnews.com/news/special-reports/a-guide-to-common-core/articles/2014/02/27/who-is-fighting-against-common-core

Obama and his secretary of education, Arne Duncan, liked the Common Core concept and wanted to aid the implementation process by offering states major incentives to sign on. During his campaign, Obama had vowed to "fix the failures of No Child Left Behind." Now, he offered a carrot: If states agreed to adopt new "college and career readiness standards," they could compete for funds from a $4.35 billion Department of Education program called Race to the Top. The program awarded extra credit to states that tracked students' development from kindergarten through high school. No Child Left Behind had, for the first time, collected a huge amount of data about schools, but Duncan wanted schools to drill down deeper, zeroing in on individual students as they progressed through the education system.

Common Core's critics contend that the administration took advantage of the recession: "The states just adopted it so quickly, largely because a large pot of Race to the Top money was encouraging them to do so," says Terrence Moore, senior adviser of the charter school initiative at Michigan's Hillsdale College, who has toured the country to challenge the standards.

Seriously, joether, either your medication isn't working or you're not taking enough of it. This delusion that you have superpowers is getting out of hand. You don't even know if I vote, let alone who for. I think it's time for you to crawl back under your bridge and have a little nap. Maybe you'll feel better when you wake up.

Based on your 'personality' I would wager you voted for the GOP/TP.

Its one thing to make campaign gaffes. Everyone on both sides does that. Its quite another to have a prepared speech and still fuck shit up! I would think you could tell the difference.....

I live how you find ways to deflect...you know as well as I do that there's speeches that Democrats have made that have the same kinds of mistakes.

Surely you know that with most of these politicians, the error is to be found with the speechwriter?

Lucylastic -> RE: Mathematics not a requirement in the Tea Party (3/27/2015 9:08:21 AM)

please provide a link to a dem who gets so irate IN congress and got it wrong on a HUMUNGous scale,
this isnt a slip of the tongue. The math was out by a huge , FUCKING huge number
5 million per person is nowhere near under ten thousand.
And of course there are those that think sessions was just lying hoping no body would fact check him
Both sides have done such

It's still in the same vein, though, Joether.

I'm not going to say Sessions isn't a moron because I don't know the guy. He very well could be a moron.

Once again, you've taken one sample and extrapolated it to the whole. I suppose this is to be expected from you, though.

It's not as if a campaign trail is a taxing endeavor, seeing folks sleep like four hours a day and all.
In no way would that lead to some errors while talking for twenty hours a day [8|]

Technically that is correct. I laughed the first time I heard that one too, at least until I did some legal research.

It looks like one of the per-requsites to being a congressional speech writer is to be unable to pass 9th grade science class.

If you have ever given a speech before the open public, you would know to check through and read everything before hand. Only a fool reads the stuff they are handed and have not checked prior to the actual speech. Its also common sense at play here. If it seems REALLY wild to say; wouldn't that clue you in to check and recheck all the facts? Just to make sure?

I got to laugh my ass off a second time, Kirata. You really just 'dont get it', do you?

You cant answer questions intelligently nor honestly. That's why its so much fun to debate things with you! You ALREADY live in fantasy land. What your seeing is that place most of us live in called reality. In reality, people answer each other's questions intelligently and honestly. In fantasy land, you answer how you want, irrelevant of anyone or anything else.
