Not at all.....a Praetorian guard's a far cry from a protection detail....least ways when it's a Republican President anyway,right ?

Not really all that far.

The origins of the Praetorian Guard is from the bodyguards of a Roman general. If that doesn't sound like a "protection detail" to you, please explain.

Also, note in my second response to this thread (direct response to Aylee's comment about the Secret Service and not being good news):

The closest we have to the Praetorian Guard in the 3rd Infantry Regiment. Their mission is

The regiment's mission is to conduct memorial affairs to honor fallen comrades and ceremonies and special events to represent the U.S. Army, communicating its story to United States citizens and the world. On order, it conducts defense support of civil authorities in the National Capital Region and deploys elements in support of overseas contingency operations.[4]

True, but it is the closest thing, even tho far from.

No. The closes thing we have to the Praetorian Guard is the Secret Service, and they're not really all that far from each other.
