I sometimes read the other opinions to make sure that I am not repeating the same thing as everyone else. It gets redundant for me to read several people saying exactly the same thing.  I may agree with someone's point of view though.

I tend to stay away from posting on very long threads unless they have expanded to other areas of discourse. But people post the way they feel appropriate, and everyone is different.

And...is there a point other than your methodology for posting?

Ok me old china, time for a suggestion. What others including myself here do, is to place a note on the top of the reply to the effect that you have read the OP but not the rest of the thread. very handy when the bloody thread gets past 5 pages..

Disclaimer:
I have read the OP but none of the replies. Appologies if I'm echoing someone else's reply.

Feel free to cut & paste or otherwise copy..

Am I the only one that has responded before I read the replies and felt like an ass the person that started a thread made a clarification about the opening post that would have answered my post? Talk about open mouth insert foot... (poor me, not reading a 20 page thread before I posted on it...smiles)

LOL Nope, you aren't.

I try always to read the whole thread, or at least skim it, because odds are, if I don't, I will go back after I posted, read the thread, and go "Ack, now my post looks redundant, or completely out of place."

By the way Julia, if you post in a thread before I do, it's about 80% likely I won't have to...It's eerie!

Ouch, is right. I barely have one either at the moment. I really NEED this weekend away. I may get to the Wet Spot in Seattle..so I'm packing my black bunny ears and tail, and a corset...I'll try to have fun for both of us.

No one is obligated to read or skim the whole thread before posting to it.. but don't be surprised if  you sometimes wind up looking like a goof for posting to only the OP, after the thread, took a huge turn, and the comments made by the OP have been trannsformed into a completely different topic, or the OP adds a bunch of twists rendering your comments pointless.

I think that posting something that to me, sounds like "I didn't bother to read what anyone else thinks, and I don't really care about this thread except to express my important opinion'  is somewhat rude.  If you don't want to read the whole thread, then don't... but why announce it?  Is it a disclaimer  in case your post turns out to be out of context with what actually is presently going on in the thread... and you wind up looking like a goof?
