Happy New Year!
With a New Year coming in about 24 hours, welcome 2015!!!!,

I was wondering what politics/ or political wishes, desires, or predictions do you have?

I have many political wishes and desires.

1. I will start by saying, I would like to see more cohesiveness among the political parties, and I would like to see more grass roots organizations coming forward and challenging the status quo.

2. I would love to see the creation of a really viable 3rd party, but I doubt that will happen any time soon.
Regardless of your political party, most people want what is best for their country.
We may not always agree on the road we need to take to get there.

3. I would love to see a global effort from countries all over the world, to step up and become actively involved in fighting terrorism, acts of terrorism and terrorists.
I realize every country does not have a large amount of resources, citizenry, money or troops to send, but every country should make the effort to do whatever they can do, because at the end of the day, terrorism does and will effect everyone in the world.

Please don't use this thread to continue the never ending partisan bashing, that is already taking place on 90% of the other threads on here.

I have many other wishes and desires, but I am curious to see what other people will say.
Political wishes, desires or predictions, anyone?

Happy New Year to Everyone!

It is not the New Year yet, I think I mentioned that.

I doubt that I will be in a position or have the inclination to start this thread tomorrow night.
In this country, most people make their New Year's resolutions, wishes, or desires known often
prior to the New Year!

I see you are an Aussie, come on, tell us your political wishes for your country.

On the national scene I see a reversal of strategy in congress… The Democrats will now become the obstructionist party and block all Republican legislation … With the result of a continued do nothing congress.

The US economy will continue its modest recovery and growth with Asia and Europe sliding further into recession.

No change to the healthcare act but plenty of talk and threats.

Local police departments, mostly urban, will continue to address issues with their African American communities… but there will be no national legislation passed to address their demands. Protests will continue especially after each violent incident involving police and African Americans but they will slowly decrease as their demands are evaluated and when appropriate changes made.

On the world scene I believe inner pressures will force Putin to at least stop further aggression in the Ukraine in reality but continue to rattle his rockets to save face.

The ISIS will collapse and revert back to guerrilla warfare… Syria will slowly regain momentum in their civil war.

A shaky peace will remain in place between Israel and Hamas.. But no progress on a lasting peace.

I believe we will be surprised on how stable Afghanistan will become in the coming year… With the Taliban under attack in Pakistan there will be little chance of a big offensive in Afghanistan… not enough resources past the usual suicide and roadside bombings.

Iran will continue to stall on the reining in of their nuclear program… more economic isolation but no military action… It will take a Republican administration for that.

That is all I can think of at the moment.

Of course we can look forward to the Presidential candidates to emerge with Bush and Hillary… God help us. Speaking of God he will continue to be a force in both national and world politics… His believers with the thought that they have Gods ear and permission will continue to sin.

Butch, your post was a tad depressing.

I was hoping to hear about some political dreams or wishes you had, regardless how far fetched.

Isn't the New Year a time for HOPE?

I thought there was hope in my predictions...but you are right I did not add wishes. I think we all would wish for pretty close to the same things...and they will not happen.

Can't we have a little bit of hope? At least for a few weeks into a new year?

THIS! Thats the spirit!
I want more than a stable economy, I want an explosion of good paying full time jobs, a push to create more housing for lower and moderate income people, and much lower taxes for those of us not making a lot of money.

Hope is a good word. so yes lets see, we need a magical wand for this.

Environment: There's some nutcases on Earth who actually burn oil and coal to make electricity even when they got rivers nearby - wave the wand to remove those powerplants and their owners from the face of the Earth. (The remaining oil should be reserved for transportation.)

Healthcare: A reverse to the earlier system with free healthcare under full government control for all, the commercial system have failed completely and miserably - which have been shown both by experts and government evaluation of the failed transition that increased health care costs several times over (while inequality in dental and healthcare between high and low income household got far worse). The rollback will happen eventually, but lets use that wand and let it happen now, it will make it possible to make a cut in taxes (my tax have gone up to 38% in recent years in part due to that madness.)

ISIS: good choice, but not just 'revert' but to be wiped of the face of the Earth, those nutcases don't just go genocidal on those of other religions but even torture and enslave other muslims.

Peace in Palestina: Already addressed above and agree on that one - waves the wand again to change the recent vote by USA since they were against (and the UK that abstained).

Ukraine: A heartfelt wish that Ukraine is permitted to join Nato and the EU mutual defence pact. Yes that will destabilize the region for a while and we will see quite some mudslinging, but Russia have already set the tone with declarations that mimics the cold war with one uncanny resemblance. Well lets use that wand just for the heck of it and 'ping' on Putins head, he need a radical change of mind since he increasingly seem to mimic certain previous leaders from that region.

@Marini: I guess you're in the US when you wish for a 'third party' and I cant but agree (best would be if you had a fourth also). Your country need one alternative since its more akin to a one party system with two nearly indistinguishable parties in your parliament.

Don't you believe it Marini *smile*............most people in this corner of the world wouldn't have a CLUE what the policies of all the minor parties are (apart from obstruction) but then again, the major parties leave a lot to be desired too. One tells lies and the other doesn't tell the truth.........and they are like the old Jeeps............they are interchangeable !! Still, at least there is an infaliible method of knowing when they are lying I guess.

My wish for 2015 would possibly be along the lines of the plot for the old movie " The Mouse That Roared"...............especially when the country that declared war on the States came into possession of their 'Q Bomb' and discovered just what it would be capable of.

You really don't want to think about scenario's like that, the United States is pretty much all that stands in between the world being taken over being terrorists.
You might want to re-think a few things.

Two more wishes...................One. Give the United Nations forces teeth and a mandate to be not only Peacekeepers but also Peacemakers and to be able to USE those teeth.
Two.................Find a cure for the disease from hell; Motor Neurone Disease. I have just watched somebody die from it and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy

Watch the movie Marini and you will see my point and probably get some laughs out of it too. Peter Sellers played about 5 parts in it as I remember, so that will give you an idea of what it was about *smile*.
