Senate Republicans Block Sweeping Overhaul of National Security Agency Program
Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked a sweeping overhaul of the once-secret National Security Agency program that collects records of Americans’ phone calls in bulk.
Democrats and a handful of Republicans who supported the measure fell two votes short of the 60 votes they needed to take up the legislation, which sponsors named the U.S.A. Freedom Act.
Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, worked hard to defeat the bill, which had the support of the Obama administration and a coalition of technology companies, including Apple, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo.

The bill itself was called U.S.A. Freedom Act (H.R. 3361 - 113th Congress)

Jonathon Gruber laughingly admitted that Democrats lie to the "stupid voters" very casually

Honesty, truth, not important

So why would anyone trust the Obama and the Democrats to overhaul the NSA

Musicmystery -> RE: Republicans Block Sweeping Overhaul of NSA program (11/19/2014 6:16:40 AM)

Because they don't want to actually do anything about it. They just want to whine about it.

It's called hypocrisy. Well, actually it's called Republican S.O.P.

Nope he laughingly admitted that nutsuckers lie to the stupid voters very casually, since he is owned lock stock and barrel by captain magic underpants, the nutsucker darling of the last election.

Would these be the same Republicans who continually deride health care reform as a huge government overreach ?

Even if it passed, even if it contained actual real reforms, even if.. come on, lets be honest about the US govt... the US govt has shown Americans and the entire world that they simply can not be trusted.. the NSA broke the law, the bent the law, they spindled and mutilated it, and the fuckers got away with that and continue to get away with it and will in the future (no matter the party).. the only thought I have is that you can not trust them or any law to be obeyed so it is up to each person to be proactive and do everything you can to thwart the bastards.. get and use the best encryption you can.. buy the encrypted phones (you know, those new phones the FBI, etc are bitching about).. use vpns, use seedboxes, etc, etc,.. basically, do everything you can to protect yourself and learn how to keep yourself protected with each new advancement for privacy..

What would have happened if this (or some similar law) was passed? people would think "ok, now I am protected and don't have to worry about that anymore".. in other words, people would fall back asleep again.. and the bastards would continue to secretly do what they wanna do, regardless.. the sheeple will continue believe the govt and roll over and let em do it to them again (and again, and again).. People that are concerned need to protect themselves, its as simple as that.. not just from the f'n NSA, but from anyone and any hacker/group/organization/govt dept that wants to illegally hack into their private business affairs... This law wouldn't have stopped the others out there anyway so again, people need to protect themselves from all hackers anyway, not just the NSA..

Like I have said, they are all liars and corrupt. The dems are amateur, spineless weak little pussies and the repubs are ruthless, spit-in-your-face pros.

The dems lie about passing what was a repub med. insurance mandate in 1992. The repubs lie about war, banking deregulation, the outing of CIA field agents, Al Quada, black ops and the whole mess that W's 8 years were.

Better yet - simply don't do anything which would matter to 'them'. I daresay we can all get along quite comfortably in life without risking a trip to Gitmo - I certainly do, and I don't feel 'oppressed' in the least. Time to grow up, people.

Another stupid voter spots the deliberate lies before you can say "Mission Accomplished"

Good to know you are on the ball as and when it suits you. IE WMD`s in Iraq.

As for the truth, you wouldnt know it if it bit you on the arse.

Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton and Al Gore and John Kerry and Harry Reid and Barbara Boxer and Nanci Pelosi, all of the Democrats either gave dire speeches warning of the grave dangers Saddam Hussein posed to his own people and to the world, or voted to liberate Iraq, or even bombed Iraq (in Bill Clintons case). One thing that the left really liked about Obama was that as a Junior Senator he hadnt voted for war, because that suited their propaganda efforts

Once we went in all those same Democrats looked the other way as hate-filled leftist propagandists such as yourself (and especially in the news media and on college faculties etc) worked tirelessly to stab George W. Bush in the back and denigrate our soldiers for liberating the people of Iraq, an act that all of the aforementioned Dems had fully supported

An act that was fully debated and was backed by congressional legislation

mnottertail -> RE: Republicans Block Sweeping Overhaul of NSA program (11/20/2014 9:07:34 AM)

As Bush et al traitorously and knowingly doctored intel causing the duped members of congress to back them in a misplaced nationalistic fervor, we already really knew that Clinton had solved the issue of WMD, we need democrats to do that sort of thing, nutsuckers being awash in their ineptitude, their best efforts only lead to more post offices being named after St. Wrinklemeat, everything else they touch turns to shit.

well.. like I said, its not just the NSA a person/business needs to worry about.. its anyone that wants to mess with ya.. that could mean any hacker or even a stalker (that could try to hack into your phone, email, etc).. and too, with the whole "Internet of Things" thing he/she could hack your new refridgerator and spy one ya! I remember there was a news story on a family whose baby monitor (which apparently they did some basic protection on like password, etc) got hacked and the creepy perv was watching and talking to their child over it.. If you have a business of any kind with a client list on your computer there are privacy laws you need to be aware of, lest ya wanna be in the news as the latest business hacked.. if you are a business with company info, projects in development, inventions, etc then you don't want your secrets and info stolen by the completion or China, etc, do you? There are so many ways people leave themselves open to it, not knowingly and so if you don't want some hacker watching and taking pics of you via your laptop webcam (I have a piece of tape over mine).. then proactive and learning how they do it, where you need to strengthen your protection, etc and how you can prevent being a victim is the way to go, imo..

And since when does anything a person/business does (like encryption, vpns, etc) mean risking a trip to Gitmo??? geeze... [8|]

You have former President Jimmy Carter who has said in an interview on NBC that he wont use email for important communications, anything important he sends thru snail mail.. when a former Prez doesn't trust his own govt, what does that tell the world?

Yeah, and Republicans lie more often to voters. In fact, the grand majority of those in 'The Low Information Voter' category tend to vote Republican/Tea Party. Now why do you suppose that is?

Anyone that took the time to sit down and read the law, would understand the issue Mr. Gruber is stating is 'small potatoes'. Oh forgot.....You....didn't bother to read the bill/law. You had....ALL...your information spoon fed to you, because other people didnt think your intelligent or educated enough to think for yourself. All your information on the ACA comes 3rd hand (at best) or 7th hand (more likely).

If you (and all the other conservatives) were to hold Republican/Tea Party to the same level of accountability and responsibility with power in elected office as you and others slam the President and Democrats on an hourly basis; we'd have good government.....

Here is the thing, a bunch of the Patriot Act stuff expires in 2015. This bill, while stopping phone data collection, would have extended much of the Patriot Act to 2017.

Also, notice how the Republicans did NOT side with big business this time?

This brings to mind the gun argument about laws, "If it saves just ONE life."

Well, if spying saves just ONE life, shouldn't the same folks on the gun laws issues be backing those laws as well?
