MrRodgers -> GOP ridiculous partisan hypocrisy. (11/17/2014 6:39:03 PM)

Once again, this is not my father's repub party. These repubs now are nothing but partisan hypocrites.

"The audacity of this president to think he can completely destroy the rule of law with the stroke of a pen is unfathomable to me," said GOP Rep. Steve King of Iowa, an outspoken opponent of relaxing U.S. immigration law. "It is unconstitutional, it is cynical, and it violates the will of the American people." What unmitigated partisan bullshit.

House Dems Push Obama on Immigration Reform
Some Republicans have even raised the possibility of impeachment.

Here's a timeline of then and now:

—1986. Congress and Reagan enacted a sweeping overhaul that gave legal status to up to 3 million immigrants without authorization to be in the country, if they had come to the U.S. before 1982. Spouses and children who could not meet that test did not qualify, which incited protests that the new law was breaking up families.

—1987. Early efforts in Congress to amend the law to cover family members failed. Reagan's Immigration and Naturalization Service commissioner announced that minor children of parents granted amnesty by the law would get protection from deportation. Spouses and children of couples in which one parent qualified for amnesty but the other did not remained subject to deportation, leading to efforts to amend the 1986 law.

—1989. By a sweeping 81-17 vote, the Senate in July voted to prohibit deportations of family members of immigrants covered by the 1986 law. The House failed to act.

—1990. In February, President George H.W. Bush, acting through the Immigration and Naturalization Service, established a "family fairness" in which family members living with a legalizing immigrant and who were in the U.S. before passage of the 1986 law were granted protection from deportation and authorized to seek employment. The administration estimated up to 1.5 million people would be covered by the policy. Congress in October passed a broader immigration law that made the protections permanent.

~shrug~ We've had six years now of "anything Obama is bad no matter what it is". It's not a new tune. I'd have been stunned if they suddenly stopped piping it. Them at least testing the waters for impeachment if not actually following through was also a near certainty. I put it at 50/50 that they find some pretext for impeachment no matter what the people want -- including Republican voters.

I'd love to impeach Obama but not for the trumped up reasons that they will want.

Sanity -> RE: GOP ridiculous partisan hypocrisy. (11/17/2014 8:00:08 PM)

Biggest problem leftists have on their undocumented Democrat push is that it isnt "just" those evil, horrible, awful rotten Republicans who are against the Obama no-borders policy

Hence the landslide losses on every level of government Obamas party just suffered

And the amnesty Reagan agreed to, all the Dems promised on their mothers graves that they would never ask again, because that was going to fix the problem

So much for making deals with Democrats

Remember, GWB could not get reform passed.

The establishment Republican party is at war with the Tea Party idiots -- and it is the Tea Party that has killed immigration reform. It's astonishing and alarming that such a small group, absolutely unrepresentative of the vast majority of Americans, can so grind government to a halt.

The Tea Party was also the driver of the debt ceiling brinksmanship and the government shut down.

The new Republicans elected this past November are not of the Tea Party ilk and are reportedly inclined to try and get things done. We'll see.

Thanks for making the OP's point for him by being a perfect example in your post of exactly what he said.

Of course they're going to impeach him. It is vital to their psyche to put that asterisk by his name in the history books. When the lawsuit fails or doesn't get filed they will find some excuse to impeach even though they already know they have no chance of convicting him.

As a matter of fact I'd predict that until we have some major crisis that fundamentally changes things the Republican party will seek to impeach every Democratic President that is in office when they control both houses of Congress.

What kind of a moronic asshole would say that?

You said impeachment was off the table and I showed you that it wasn't. How hard is it to simply admit that you are wrong?

Barton is part of House leadership. Don't you even know who is in the party organization? Barton is one of the most senior Republicans in the House and is former chair of the Energy committee.

The fact that they walk it back every time is only because they A) have nothing to impeach him with,b) impeaching him means that Biden becomes Pres.
Boehner says impeachment is off the table but is threatening a shut down govmnt again.....
Move the goal posts to having to be JUST the senators or the house members is bullshit
Impeachment has been bandied around like viagra at an over 40s mens club since before he actually took over as president.

Where has the case of suing the Pres gone???

No landslide, but a pathetic, I don't give a fuck. Obama is the deporter in Chief, and Clinton signed the most restrictive immigration bill in our nations history, all of the allie allie in frees and amnesty were under Republican presidents.

Another lie of the nutsuckers quashed.

Found my own clue....yes its huff n poo...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/11/18/gop-lawsuit-jonathan-turley_n_6178112.html

House Republicans have hired constitutional lawyer Jonathan Turley to lead their lawsuit against President Barack Obama over the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

The George Washington University Law School professor announced the news on his blog Monday night. He explained that, as an advocate of the separation of powers, he is concerned about what he views as the excesses of the executive branch.

"Unilateral, unchecked Executive action is precisely the danger that the Framers sought to avoid in our constitutional system. This case represents a long-overdue effort by Congress to resolve fundamental Separation of Powers issues. In that sense, it has more to do with constitutional law than health care law," he said.

The self-described liberal noted that he voted for Obama in 2008 and even supported "national health care." But, Turley added, the House "had me at hello" with the merits of the case.

Republicans charge that the administration acted without congressional authority in delaying the employer mandate provision of the Affordable Care Act. Two previous law firms sought out by Republicans have already dropped the case, fueling criticism that the motion was nothing more than a publicity stunt.

Democrats quickly criticized the hire on Tuesday, noting Turley's many appearances on Fox News, where he frequently criticizes the administration on health care and immigration reform.

"Even for $500-per-hour in taxpayer dollars, Speaker [John] Boehner has had to scour Washington to find a lawyer willing to file this meritless lawsuit against the President," said Drew Hammill, spokesman for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). "Now, he's hired a TV personality for this latest episode of his distraction and dysfunction. When Speaker Boehner can't legislate his way, he shuts down the government and files lawsuits."

joether -> RE: GOP ridiculous partisan hypocrisy. (11/19/2014 12:01:43 AM)

Of course the Republican Party will try to impeach the President....for something...

They have less than six months before the general election gets underway in most places. They have to show they can do....something. Like spending half their two years before 2016, convincing the American public that Mr. Obama is guilty of...something....that their 24/7 propaganda machines drum up from total nothingness. In other words, fabricating complete bullshit and hoping their supporters are too intelligent to say "hey, when are you going to get around to doing something useful for us folks?"

Lets look at the last two Presidents and what they lied about:

A Democratic President lies for what? An affair? How many politicians in Congress had mistresses on the side? Is that the Speaker of the House, Mr. Newt Gingrich with his hand raised? The same guy that led the charge to impeach Mr. Clinton? Can you say "hypocrite"?

A Republican President that lies to the nation about Iraq. After invading it, 3,500+ US Soldiers killed, 32,500+ US Soldiers injured, 100,000-600,000 civilians killed (depending on which report you believe), and dropping $4 trillion in borrowed money to pay for the whole damn thing; WHAT DID WE FIND? No where in the ballpark of 'Massive Stockpiles' of 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' that Mr. G. W. Bush and his whole administration (inlcuding the one token credible guy they had, Mr. Collin Powell). He was not impeached by Republicans, because......oh....that's right, he's REPUBLICAN....

They have to impeach him, because all their ideas are lame, their viewpoints found silly, and their promises are broken faster than Palin's can shoot their mouths off with foul language. They have to 'restore their honor' lost when they failed to make Mr. Obama a one term president. Didnt matter to them if the nation suffered economically; just as long as President Obama was out of office in 2012.

The only redeeming quality that Republicans and their Tea Party lackeys have.....is to show the next ten generations of Americans the caliber of individuals whom should....NEVER...be elected into public office! Ok, the idea originates from something Mr. Cotto said to Mr. Morden. (Bonus points if you know the reference without looking it up).
