According to the cumulative ratings posted daily at Real Clear Politics, which averages together an array of national polls to come up with Obama's composite job approval rating, the president's approval on January 1, 2014 stood at 42.6 percent. The president's approval rating on October 30, was 42 percent. So over the course of ten months, and based on more than one hundred poll results in 2014, Obama's approval rating declined less than one point.

The fact that the president's approval rating hovers in the low 40s isn't news. It has been there for a majority of his presidency. But look at how the Post downplayed its own polling data when it showed Obama's approval had bumped up from 40 to 43 percent -- "The new Post-ABC survey puts Obama's overall national approval rating at 43 percent, up a statistically insignificant three points from two weeks ago." The Post, like lots of Beltway news media outlets, appears to be too firmly committed a Republican talking point about Obama's "sinking" approval rating.

Nah. Everyone loves the guy

You keep reminding us how you are still such a devout worshiper yourself

You love him so much you affectionately refer to him as Little Bush

Or was it Light Bush

Hope and Change you can believe in, ten more wars, all that

You just keep sucking up that Media Matters swill for your talking points, we are all Media Matters talking points believers and repeaters too

The low ratings can be attributed to Obama failing to live up to the promise of his election by him apeing the Radicals instead of doing what common sense and common decency and the popular will demand - be a liberal leader. The hype in the press is simply their lemming instinct to go for the sensational headline rather than do their job as journalists. Which sells more newspapers: 'President Obama Poor Ratings Show Public Disenchantment', or 'President Obama Popularity In Death Spiral'? And too, consider the endless deluge of insane, rabid hatred and traitor money thrown against him, and ask yourself if anyone's rating would be above 40%.

I've never paid much attention to presidential approval ratings. They're meaningless. Yet it seems so important for the media to make sure that the people know what other people think of the President. I think it's made an issue for the sake of so many sports-minded people who desperately need to know what the "score" is at any given point in time.

Talk about missing the point! Wow.

That point is....the approval is flat (and low--in the 40s). But the narrative is skewed.

I know you hate facts, in preference to bias that goes your way. Well here's bias that does! You should be thrilled.

Republicans just won control of the Senate btw, and are on track to winning the biggest House majority in 65 years

(Care to parrot your masters' talking points about Obamas popularity again?)

Keep pumping money into the CIA, Pentagon and FEMA...check.

Keep your hands off the Fed despite banks violating Dodd-Frank...check.

Restore equities (paper) value...the Dow hits yet another out of several new highs...check.

Restore banking...they sit on $2.7 trillion in cash...NOT lent...check.

Restore Corp. profits...check.

Maintain or increase corporate federal welfare...check.

Go to limited air war against Syria and ISIS...check.

Keep GITMO open...check.

Pass and maintain ObamaCare to make the medical health care/insurance industrial complex very very much more profitable...check.

OH, and apparently immigration free for all (reform) and fighting the Right in their "war on Women" has nothing to do with the economy, and by the way, where the hell are those undocumented alien voters anyway the left were counting on anyway? Those conservative Catholic undocumented aliens? So anyway, here's the plan as I heard it today from Newt on CNN, stimulate business so we have 4+ percent economic growth each year, tax reform (repeal redistribution (theft) of wealth from those who earn it to those who don't, also further and faster energy independence and therefore manufacturing industry stimulation using cheap energy as the catalyst to draw manufacturing back to the states, which will rebuild the middle class and broaden the tax base with real jobs rather than "shovel ready" government programs financed with money borrowed from China and then finally but just as importantly, defend the borders and the citizens who live on those borders.

So, Obama's approval ratings mean zip to you and me and how he governs or how his Presidency will be remembered . Clinton's ratings were in the toilet but he is remembered as the great President who balanced the budget which ushered in years of good times for the economy and America. Somebody should phone the WH with that factoid.

There is a lot of lip service to how unpopular OBAMA is but it is rarely explained or explicated -- it is just kind of an assumed fact. Plus, no matter the poll you cite, the mid term predictions went as predicted.

Disturbing news just gets attached to the President. Flat wages, ebola, ISIS, Putin, the Secret Service, Central American Refugee crisis -- the President is just not in control of any of it and so he's holding the bag.

Obama always remains calm --- I think this particularly upsets the panicked American who fears bad news and cannot put it into context. I do think the President has failed to rally the American spirit in the face of new challenges. He's also the executive in chief during the USA's diminished role in foreign affairs. In many ways Obama is the anti-Putin -- unable to distract Americans with thrills of nationalism and foreign policy muscularism.

Imagine Obama in office during the 1960s refusing to believe the Domino Effect of Ho Chi Min in Vietnam. For such thinking, he'd be castigated as giving the Far East away to the Communists.

----

Politically speaking -- Sanity's "Republican Wave" gained control of the Senate without the party even putting forth a coherent platform. Opposition, Anger, and panicky reactions to world events -- I'm curious to see how that translates into leadership.

Well, know I know why the media does it -- nobody (including everyone in this thread) actually bothers to read the text (and hence the point) of the news, and instead, jumps on their pet soap boxes.

When it ticks up, it's insignificant. When it tips down, it's plummeting. Reality -- it's been flat for a long time, and remains so.

Media consumer comprehension, however, remains plummeting.

Are you unable to count?
The Republicans look to have around 245 seats.
In 1976 the Democrats won 292.

Now I'm only a humble mathematician but 1976 seems to be quite a bit more recent than 1948.

As a matter of fact looking back over the Democratic majorities of the last 65 years it looks like there was only one, 2006, that was smaller than 240.

There is nothing particularly large or unusual about the Republican majority except about the unusually low number of votes cast for them.

And the unusually high price tag for those votes.

Fewer donors participated in the process and more of the dollars came from secret sources.

Oligarchy in action.

$3.67 billion -- on a midterm.

Pennies... Pocket change, compared to the federal budget deficits

One main reason leftists seek to limit free speech advertising (aka dissent) is that they own the education system as well as most of the media and Hollywood

They can never have enough control to suit them
