An he got robbed by a guy in flip-flops! HAHAHA.....

You seem to be quite amused that he got his gun stolen. Will you think it's equally funny if the guy kills someone with it?
No...then he'll have something to say along these lines:

"some poor guy/girl was shot to death by a man wielding a weapon stolen from a pro gun nut who was carrying openly. So...it could be argued that this poor victim's death is the gun nut's fault since he
a. Was carrying openly or b. Had a gun in the first place. Another logical reason to ban all guns."

While I don't see that as a reason to ban guns, I would not have a problem if they also put part of the blame on the guy who lost it. If people thought they might be charged with something, they might take better care to hang on to them in the first place.

I have to disagree with you in part.
If they do something stupid to lose the gun like leave it on their porch.
If however they are doing something like this guy (and I think that open carry is stupid from a tactical viewpoint) completely legal and you put a legal penalty on top of having been robbed you are giving them a choice between drawing when someone has a gun on them at point blank range or going to jail. If you don't want this situation to develop don't legalize open carry.

Creative Dom's silliness aside...

I'm going to present another angle to this, based in part on what thisisherboi stated (this is only for 'the sake of the argument'). Could the individual have sold the firearm, because the black market would have given him a short term, but highly profitable return? Would police have probable cause to investigate this guy's bank account and records?

How much does a Walter-brand P22 cost? Just the gun itself. And the 'resell value to less than honest persons'?
Given what everyone has seen...not just on this thread but others...of your viewpoint on guns, I believe I'll wait for that thread to not come along before I let your claim of my being silly bother me. Because...sadly...that thread will come along as guns stolen from other, lawful owners are used in crimes every day.

If you had paid attention you will find that virtually none of the pro carry people are pro open carry.

Thankfully, in Michigan we have concealed carry.

In Alabama you can carry open.
You need a permit to carry concealed.
However stores have the right to bar open carry inside the store, and if someone like Joether sees you carrying open off of your property and panics you can be charged with disturbing the peace.

You need a CCW permit here as well. I believe open carry is only allowed on your own property or within your own business.

If you don't know the facts, please don't spread this kind of mis-information. Michigan is a full permitless open-carry state. Anyone over the age of 18 with no significant criminal or mental health history with a legally owned pistol may open carry it anywhere in the state with the exception of the pistol free zones. Local laws in cities/towns/villages do not apply and can not be enforced with regard to pistols - the state decided to take over all aspects of firearm law. Extensive case-law and attorney general opinions exist that confirm Open Carrying is NOT disturbing the peace and is NOT brandishing. Private property rights do trump all, and any establishment can ask that you leave for any reason (firearm related or not). In my 10+ years of openly carrying, I've never been asked to leave a single place.

In order to conceal a pistol in Michigan, one requires a CPL (not a CCW) and must be 21 years of age.

Doesn't it hurt your mouth when you talk out of both sides of it at the same time. You go on and on about having a gun will prevent violence and here you say just the opposite that possessing openly causes violence. If some punk will shoot you in the head for your wallet when you have a gun on your hip what would stop him from poping a cap in your ass if he thinks you are unarmed? Or are the criminals you deal with ethical enough that they would not shoot someone they percieved as being unarmed Have you been stupid long or is this a work in progress.?

If you don't want this situation to develop don't legalize open carry.

Why don't you take your anti gun rhetoric and stick it up your empty holster?

What open carry means to me:

My buddy, the security guard, can leave his work pistol on the hip while he fuels his car.

I can leave the snake pistol on my hip and my rifle in the gun rack while I stop at a convenience store to ice down the take from hunting.
