ORIGINAL: NorthernGent You don't seem to have any/many threads on here about the American Civil War. A pivotal episode in your history. Much more about WW2 on here. Surprising really. I think that since this forum seems more politically-oriented, WW2 might come up more because it's the key event many people look back on at least as far as setting the stage for the modern political era we're currently in. The Civil War was most definitely a pivotal event in U.S. history, and I think there have been a few conversations on the topic. But you're right, WW2 is discussed more. But the decades between the Civil War and WW1, along with the Interwar period before WW2, there were other changes in the U.S. which might be deemed pivotal. One war that hardly gets much attention at all is the Spanish-American War of 1898. Our role in the Boxer Rebellion also tends to get ignored, as well as our role of mediator in the Russo-Japanese War. Even WW1 doesn't really get that much attention, as that's just viewed as a "preliminary bout" to WW2. Plus, WW2 seemed to have more "colorful" figures attached to it. Hitler's name seems to come up a lot in various conversations, far more than most other historical figures. I think they call it "Godwin's Law." That, just by itself, might give WW2 more attention by default.
