MrRodgers -> Happy now...? The neocons are. (8/25/2014 10:30:41 PM)

.....and they said all of this technology would breed personal freedom. It has bred freedom but govt. freedom, in the further establishment of Big Brother.

Exploiting lax security in the system cellular carriers use when directing calls, texts, and Internet data, the surveillance industry is offering governments — and anyone else — the capability of tracking cellphone users without their knowledge or consent anywhere, The Washington Post reported.

My whole problem is that if it exists, the NSA and the CIA...WILL use it and irrespective of federal or state law.

Here

The technology the surveillance industry is selling provides access to carrier location databases even without the knowledge of the phone companies. Once a phone is located, calls can be intercepted and documents, photos, and contact lists accessed, the Post reported.

Hey look guys, a pro-conservative site pushing fear, Fear,.....FEAR! This bit of knowledge and ability has been around for a while now. If the NSA and CIA didn't have access to this information and technology by now, their idiots. So its safe to assume they not only are aware of it and have it, they are using it. And the nation is safer for it. If your paranoid schizophrenia is getting to you that much, of the NSA/CIA snooping on your cellphone....get rid of the cellphone. Problem solved....

Your first sentence sort of states it as obvious: "The technology the surveillance industry is selling...". How could the surveillance industry sell something that wasn't in existence already? Before they started selling it, it would be logical to assume they had the technology. You cant sell a working BFG-9000 to the US Military unless you actually have the technology to make a working BFG-9000.

I stand corrected. It was in the Post article I never searched.

But experts say these new systems allow less technically advanced governments to track people in any nation — including the United States — with relative ease and precision.

It is unclear which governments have acquired these tracking systems, but one industry official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to share sensitive trade information, said that dozens of countries have bought or leased such technology in recent years. This rapid spread underscores how the burgeoning, multibillion-dollar surveillance industry makes advanced spying technology available worldwide.

That Post article was rather interesting.

quote:

Companies that make and sell surveillance technology seek to limit public information about their systems’ capabilities and client lists, typically marketing their technology directly to law enforcement and intelligence services through international conferences that are closed to journalists and other members of the public.

Yet marketing documents obtained by The Washington Post show that companies are offering powerful systems that are designed to evade detection while plotting movements of surveillance targets on computerized maps. The documents claim system success rates of more than 70 percent.

A 24-page marketing brochure for SkyLock, a cellular tracking system sold by Verint, a maker of analytics systems based in Melville, N.Y., carries the subtitle “Locate. Track. Manipulate.” The document, dated January 2013 and labeled “Commercially Confidential,” says the system offers government agencies “a cost-
effective, new approach to obtaining global location information concerning known targets.”

The brochure includes screen shots of maps depicting location tracking in what appears to be Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, Brazil, Congo, the United Arab Emirates, Zimbabwe and several other countries. Verint says on its Web site that it is “a global leader in Actionable Intelligence solutions for customer engagement optimization, security intelligence, and fraud, risk and compliance,” with clients in “more than 10,000 organizations in over 180 countries.”

I predict a resurgence in dial telephones, land lines, typewriters, snail mail, and 8-track tapes. It's getting to the point where if people can't trust the technology anymore, they'll stop using it.

Another bit of information from the Post article:

quote:

“Any tin-pot dictator with enough money to buy the system could spy on people anywhere in the world,” said Eric King, deputy director of Privacy International, a London-based activist group that warns about the abuse of surveillance technology. “This is a huge problem.”

Security experts say hackers, sophisticated criminal gangs and nations under sanctions also could use this tracking technology, which operates in a legal gray area. It is illegal in many countries to track people without their consent or a court order, but there is no clear international legal standard for secretly tracking people in other countries, nor is there a global entity with the authority to police potential abuses.

In response to questions from The Washington Post this month, the Federal Communications Commission said it would investigate possible misuse of tracking technology that collects location data from carrier databases. The United States restricts the export of some surveillance technology, but with multiple suppliers based overseas, there are few practical limits on the sale or use of these systems internationally.

Isn't outsourcing great?

Why don't you tell us just how that works in 2014?

thishereboi -> RE: Happy now...? The neocons are. (8/27/2014 7:00:07 AM)

The neocons are the ones pushing technology? That's odd, to hear the people on this forum talk the right is still adding using fingers and toes and it's the liberals who are looking to the future with new technology.

But now that you see a possible problem with it, it's all the other sides fault.

tell you what, when you can discuss something without trying to turn it into another right vs left bashfest, let me know.

Well it is today's right (neocons) that is pushing fear to perpetuate the war on terror and America's future fascism which helps to perpetuate a slow culture change for the naziazation of the country and gestapoization of local police.

I was responding to the op where you said "....and they said all of this technology would breed personal freedom. It has bred freedom but govt. freedom, in the further establishment of Big Brother. " but I can understand if you have thought about it, realized how stupid it was and now want to switch gears. Perhaps you could start a new thread. You might even want to define what you mean by "neo-con". From what I have read on these forums, much like the word "nutsacker" it's merely another word for someone I disagree with.

Actually, Climate Change is based on actual science, unlike the 'war on terror'. Health Insurance is a business concept, unlike 'fascism'. The first two concepts in both sentences are socially acceptable items if entered into a sane discussion. The following two items in each sentence center on the concept of "pushing fear". Its been well observed and established that conservatives are much more vulnerable to stimulation that draws on their fears and prejudices. Go look on any of the hundreds of conservative sites. From Stormfront to The Drudge Report. Piled high with "fear, Fear.....FEAR!" stories. They mix 'actual journalism' in with sensational and emotional concepts. And over time they effectively program conservatives to easily associate words to emotions. Which is why 'liberal gun controller' draws all the gun nuts on any topic....remotely....related to firearms into an intense fury.

Its no surprise that 'Climate Change' is a hot button conservative media pushes on their viewers. Since their viewers will react with emotion rather than rational thought. Conservatives throw out evidence that does not support the dogma they have been conditioned to believe is true. When asked for example, whose economy they would rather have: Reagan or Obama, conservatives choose Reagan hands down. And conservatives....HATE...high taxes; which they think exemplifies the Obama administration and told the Reagan administration had lower taxes (when the truth is the exact opposite).

Without the talking points from conservative media, conservatives wouldn't know what to say in any rational discussion on any topic facing the nation. Many of them are against illegal immigrants but couldn't give a rational reason...why? Nor give a stable, useful answer to how to deal with those coming in and those already inside the nation; their views are concepts that have already been tried and failed to work. "They broke the law", and so does many conservatives speeding down the roads and highways of America in their automobiles, trucks and motorcycles. If its 'ok' for conservatives to break the laws, its 'ok' for illegal immigrants to hop the border.

Not even close. Health insurance and climate change on this subject...are misnomers, not even on point.

The neo cons are neo conservatives who want a New World Order, most of which are repubs but with a few dems on board too. All throughout history, the way you get the people to change their stripes and political culture...is through fear.

You create an enemy either the Bolsheviks or Al Quada whole cloth out of thin air. You blame them for all manner of evil most of which is unmitigated bullshit and deliberate propaganda, get society to claim disbelievers are traitors and you are...on your way.

Going door to door and taking guns under such easy pretexts such as shooting during Katrina which never happened and in Boston, presumably looking a for single bomber, the whereabouts of which was well known to be elsewhere. The new culture has to start somewhere...and it has.

It is a slow moving target the identification of which is thus subject to ridicule, which is also part of the recipe for the coming and very distasteful future.

Oh and the technology used by govt. is part and parcel of the surveillance and tracking required for the creation and maintenance of the NWO.
