The problem with you Brits is that you fail to understand that fire is fun.

Oooh, that looked like fun!

Nearest I've come to it is buying some salpetre, charcoal and sulphur from separate chemists (ho yes, I was careful) and making some of my own fireworks for Nov 5th .... *that* was pretty good, though.

Guy Fawkes, November 5th, is when we do most of our fireworks stuff, yes. Very black history behind it, though.

Thanks for the polite spelling correction.
Yes I know, he tried to blow up Parliament.
Parliament was not amused.

I'm not entirely sure that spelling was standardised back then. I think 'Fawkes' is the most common, though. Doesn't matter, whatever.

Not so much now, but when I was a kid, people would burn an effigy of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire. Not nice, really.

Yes, Gettysburg was uncommonly well researched. If he is talking about the part of the battle I think he is it was a pivotal moment in the battle.

Custer's attack on stuarts flank is what settled the battle and nothing else. Had stuart continued as the anvil, the charge would have been the sufficient hammer. And gettysburg would have been a southern victory.
If the dog had not stopped to take a shit he would have caught the rabit.

True but celebrating it shows a sense of humor.

Oh, I don't doubt that they have them . . . they just don't know how to properly have fun with them.

Some fireworks went off here in Bristol near to where I live on July 4th, actually. A lot of American students live in various university hostels nearby - that could be the explanation.

We have various events in which fireworks are used here. The Suspension Bridge is closed off to be used as a 'launch base'. Pretty spectacular.

How about the fact that the battles of Gettysburg and Antetm were part of the CIVIL WAR not the REVOLUTION.

It's called normal thread drift...

...and this is about celebrating patriotism.

Long Live Our True Patriots who have fought for our country's independence and continued independence.
