According to your first link this is primarily an infrastructure issue that companies are trying to resolve. There appears to be a low volume lost to flaring in Texas. North Dakota is still developing the infrastructure it needs to handle the high volume of product they are finding. Apparently they are trying to fix the problem and plan to spend billions of dollars on infrastructure. Meanwhile, these companies are losing 100 million a month in product while dealing with investors who seem to think that pipelines and processing plants just magically manifest themselves every time someone starts up a new well.

The only nutsacker asswipe I can see is the way this has been presented here.

The story is two years old in 2013 which means that 2.4 billion dollars worth of our fuel was flared since the first story. How many miles of pipe line do you thinik could be built for 2.4 large?



North Dakota is still developing the infrastructure it needs to handle the high volume of product they are finding.


1.2billion a year since 2010. Field active and flaring 80% in 2007. In seven years they have not been able to build enough pipelines to deal with this issue that is costing them 1.2 billion a year.

Apparently they are trying to fix the problem and plan to spend billions of dollars on infrastructure.

The op notes that they are going to spend a billion dollars a year on infrastructure while loosing 1.2 billion to flairing...I remain unconvinced that any "real" beancounter would sign off on that shit

Status: offline 		well, we must ask ourselves, those of us who are american, are we better off running a pipeline thru states, foregoing states rights, and as nutsackers, hide it next election that we voted for corporations, or do we say fuck the XL and start looking at our own situation, and which one will will benefit more americans (cuz we can kill colored people anytime, for no reason except our nation says go, me and hunties families have a ong tradition of doing that and we have no provable conscience, but you better fuckin fund our hospitalization we come back some fuckin brainstem or something, or dont dump us in the fuckin landfilll, (here is a small departure, ma, dad, sis, bro, kids, grandkids, gotta tell you if you can get the 255 and dump my carcass in the landfill, you go................)n but not the goverment, I got a deal with them motherfuckers, and I will get respect from somebody. (and I am thinking huntie is of like mind)

Well there is that warm fuzzy feeling I get when the eagle shits...They still owe me a hole in the ground,a box and a little brass marker but they will probably try to stiff me for the flag since my mom wouldn't give them back the one they sent her by mistake, when they lost track of me once for a bit.

Would the cost of setting up extensive pipeline systems or installing gas liquification plants at the wellhead be cost effective? Hmmm, what would be the cost of trucking LNG out of the Dakotas to where it is needed?

As to nationalizing.. After working for decades cleaning up Uncle Sugar's messes, I wouldn't trust the Federal Government to build a kiddie's sandbox without effing it up. Look at the track record; when the Federal Bureaucracy is actively in charge of anything industrial; a major HAZMAT cleanup site is in the making.

And in its time I heard so much about how the Alaska pipeline was going to rape and pillage and it just hasn't. Hundreds of thousands of oil shipments and well heads and you have to go back decades to find disasters to scare people with to make your point.

You don't even mention that government is involved in all of those disasters. Taking money off the top, issuing licenses and establishing procedures. Albeight, mostly taking money off the top. Being irrational, jester, doesn't justify your points.

Status: offline 		No I don't. But I understand simpletons are unaware of their surroundings. The BP spill was not decades ago. That was 2010, a decade is 10 years (and decades would be at least two ten year periods consecutively, grab up a dictionary, learn some English and take your meds, and quit flouncing around hysterically like a peri-menopausal drag queen in high dudgeon.

And lets see, lately there has been a couple of towns blown up, and so on. Middleton Connecticut; Fertilizer Plant blowing up in Texas; thats a couple-tree recently.

I don't see any reason to mention Government in disasters they are only sharing a time-space with. I can name some government successes that had nothing to do with free market communism though.

The Trans-Alaska pipeline has had many incidents, the last one was in 2011 with near 14000 gallons spilled. I am aware you cannot read other than nutsacker bloggings, but the truth is out there, if you quit felching those nutsackers and deal in fact.



Government is involved in that it collects taxes, sure.

I bet you think St. Wrinklemeat singlehandedly destroyed the Soviet Union. And that nutsackers are fiscally responsible. How you coming on those jobs bills, I have written on them and am awaiting your moronic spew on them.

I like to laugh and disparage the drought of intellect exhibited by nutsackers, c'mon, lets see the jobs bills.

Status: offline 		A government is just not capable of actually running an industrial facility without seriously fucking things up. The government just refuses to play by the rules that they regulate private industry to. The citation of the BP spill is more an indictment of bribable government regulators.

Where the U.S. Government has directly run nuclear facilities, they did not play by the rules they enforced on commercial installations and now we have the taxpayers funding huge multi billion dollar HAZMAT cleanup projects. Places to google:
Hanford
Rocky Flats
Fernald
Savannah River
Los Alamos
Oak Ridge

I just have to disagree. Putting the government in charge of anything supposed to be productive is putting self aggrandizing political wonks that have no foggy clue about anything technical where they can do the most damage. Look at the track record of failures before letting the U.S. Government get direct control of anything.

Anyway, this is besides the point of the topic. Burn off of excess flammable gases from oil wells was the original topic. Personally I give a hearty raspberry to the "we are losing millions" whining. It isn't LOSING, it is the fact that in areas where it was feasible, they reclaimed waste product to sell for a side market for some extra profit. Big difference there.
Having a waste gas tank on an oil well the opens a relief valve when pressure builds up sufficiently and fires an igniter is much different from a natural gas well that produces cubic feet per minute of gas. You should see what happens at a refinery. It is rather beautiful late at night when they blow waste gas (mostly propane) and you have hundred foot high gouts of flame lighting up the night.
