You clearly need to go back to school and learn to read, I meant going with the flow as in not correcting deniers on their absurd opinions on climate sciences [8|]

Oh, okay. How about correcting warmers over their absurd chicken little opinions on science where "97% Study Falsely Classifies Scientists' Papers, according to the scientists that published them".

[8|]

Tkman117 -> RE: Study shows climate science deniers associated with conspiratorial thinking in general (4/12/2014 12:28:42 PM)

I already have, but here you go if you actually care about educating yourself

https://www.skepticalscience.com/global-warming-scientific-consensus-advanced.htm

Also it's not according to the scientists themselves, if you think that's the case then you clearly need to start leaving the cave. [8|]

97% Study Falsely Classifies Scientists' Papers, according to the scientists that published them

It's a slow afternoon, so I gave this a look. A few things caught my eye.

To get to the truth, I emailed a sample of scientists whose papers were used in the study and asked them if the categorization by Cook et al. (2013) is an accurate representation of their paper.

"I" is Andrew--an IT guy rather than a climate scientist. He doesn't say how large his sample was, nor does he explain how he selected its members. One of the comments makes an interesting point: "All the scientist you have presented on the list is well-known 'skeptics' of AGW."

Their responses are eye opening and evidence that the Cook et al. (2013) team falsely classified scientists' papers as "endorsing AGW", apparently believing to know more about the papers than their authors.

"Falsely" is an interesting choice of adverb, because its echo of "falsehood" suggests that the misclassification of papers was deliberate rather than simply mistaken. Andrew presents no evidence of deliberate deceit by Cook et al. "Apparently" is another slick adverb, allowing Andrew to suggest something he can't possibly prove.

Conclusion: The Cook et al. (2013) study is obviously littered with falsely classified papers making its conclusions baseless and its promotion by those in the media misleading.

The Cook study assessed 12,000 papers. Popular Technology (a site not without its own agenda) found problems with 13. That's 13 more than I'd like, but it's a far cry from "obviously littered."

God I love it when you try to "prove" your lies are true. Is there anything I can get you? Flowers, maybe?

K.

I'm sorry you are embarrassed by the crazy shit you have supported in the past but the threads exist for all  to read. You did support the utterly ludicrous shit listed.

You're imagining things again. I've tried to disabuse you of this imagination stuff, but since it's hopeless I just enjoy it now. So be a good fellow and stop this hijack, because I am not the topic and you're only hurting yourself.

So you're saying you didn't start a thread supporting a couple of loons whining about no one taking their psi nonsense seriously in which you argued that psi experiments were valid? I can post links.

Are you also arguing that you didn't post many posts supporting another loon who claimed that prayer made ice pretty? Again I came post links.

And finally are you also claiming you did not mistake a rhetorical flourish for a physicist claiming that there really was a luminiferous aether? Again I can links.

I realize it is really embarrassing when all the crazy shit you believe is presented in one place but that is a result of you believing in a bunch of crazy shit which is a point of the research of the op and serves to validate the research of the scientist referenced in the articles since you are also a climate change denier.

People can read, and Ken has a point no matter what you say [8|]

So which of those things didn't you do then. Be specific. No passive aggressive whiny nonsense. Be a man. Don't go run to the mods. If you didn't start a thread about psi nonsense then explain how come I have posted a link to such a thread. If you don't believe prayer makes ice pretty then explain why you spent so many pages arguing in favor of such patent nonsense in the thread I've linked to. If you didn't misunderstand a prominent physicists rhetoric to mean there really was a a real aether then why did you spend so many posts insisting that he really did mean such?

You do realize in each case I gave you plenty of opportunity to disavow the ludicrous crap at the time and each time you dug the holes yourself. You even had the gall to insult me in the process so now I will have no problem pointing out that you are a data point in the study by Oberauer and Gignac.

Odds that global warming is due to natural factors: slim to none

But this is only taking into consideration the time of human development since we began burning fossil fuels.

fucktoyprincess -> RE: Study shows climate science deniers associated with conspiratorial thinking in general (4/15/2014 2:00:54 PM)

The thing that is ultimately irritating is that while all the deniers sit around doing nothing because they think nothing needs to be done, earth is at ever increased risk. Again, like so many other issues, if people's personal beliefs affect others negatively then they need to just leave the rest of us alone. All the deniers can get together and pray, or whatever the f*** they want, but the rest of us need to worry about climate change and global warming or we will die out as a species while destroying the planet in the process. Deniers just need to get out of the way (just like anti-abortionists, people who don't believe income inequality creates instability, racists, anti-vaccination people etc.) Go pay homage to your weirdo beliefs and please leave the rest of us to actually manage humanity in a responsible way. Because the deniers are excellent at doing piss all. And doing piss all has NEVER once saved humanity in the past. It's a dud strategy. So leave the doers alone to at least try and improve things instead of standing in the way of not just progress, but a future. [sm=2cents.gif]

I have a hard time embracing your idea of a future when you spew such venom at anyone with a religious belief. It seems to cloud any issue you post about and makes you look like a raving bigot.

Can't manage humanity in general without managing me. Fuck that! I swear, liberals have an incurrable disease.

Tkman117 -> RE: Study shows climate science deniers associated with conspiratorial thinking in general (4/15/2014 5:52:01 PM)

Lol, there are already laws which manage our every day lives, social norms and constraints and prevent us from doing something people don agree with. You don't pay taxes, you face repercussions. If you don't want to move forward with the rest of humanity you can stay behind in the caves and stay out of the rest of our way. If the liberal "disease" is the scientific and cultural advancement and betterment of humanity, then the conservative disease is greed coupled with an ignorant inability to conform to a changing world while blaming said world for their insecurities.

You seem to be confused. Nothing in that post attacks everyone with religious beliefs. Your own bigotry is clouding your judgment.

She is implying that all the deniers are also religious or she wouldn't be making cracks about them running along to pray or making homage to their weirdo beliefs. You and I both know it and I am not sure why you are pretending not to. Oh And pointing out that someone constantly make nasty cracks about religious isn't any more bigoted than pointing out that fred phelps was a homophobe. Her past posts speak for themselves.

association between the endorsement of conspiracy theories and the rejection of several scientific propositions, including the fact that the earth is warming from greenhouse gases.

You know back before I was a conspiracy theorist I used to use that term in the casual way used in this post. But what, exactly, does that mean? The problem with the nutjobs is that they are right some times. The trick is figuring out when they are right and when they are wrong and trying to hold some sort of line between being in contact with reality and the understanding that reality is what you think it is.

Of course, what offers up fertile ground for us conspiracy theorists is that... you know.... there actually ARE people conspiring against me and I don't need much of a "theory" to figure that out. It also helps a lot that our society as a whole plays fast & loose with the truth. We expect our politicians to lie outright to us. Why not scientists?
