I am having fun with your ridiculous notion that there is no difference in potential abuse and injury between a pencil and a taser. People wanting to defend themselves will not choose pencils to do it... they will choose a taser or stun gun or a hand gun. All should in my view be available but all should also be regulated and the proper training be provided and graded before the issuing of a licence.

Butch

If what I have is car keys that is what I would use.
You would want to register knives then.

kdsub -> RE: Stun Guns & Tasers & Pepper Spray, Oh My (4/9/2014 7:47:13 PM)

Bama... re- read the post you quoted for an answer to you question...people will not buy car keys for defense... nor will they buy knives... your typical argument to all things regulated is nonsense. We are talking the self defense weapons mentioned in this post... not pencils...or car keys... or knives... or bats... or whatever.

Butch

Wrong again people do buy knives for defense, and to commit crimes with.
I know the first, and have dealt with the later.

With a little training you would know that everything is a weapon.
You fail to note that I approved of people having a non lethal option for self defense.

kdsub -> RE: Stun Guns & Tasers & Pepper Spray, Oh My (4/9/2014 8:01:04 PM)

Your watching Alligator Dundee too much...lol... No.... people with sense buy the weapons in this thread or guns for defense... Knives are for the kitchen... fishing and hunting and whittling and cleaning under the nails. A knife for self defense means a fight... in a crime they are pretty much useless against any of the weapons mentioned by the op.

Butch

kdsub -> RE: Stun Guns & Tasers & Pepper Spray, Oh My (4/9/2014 8:05:10 PM)

Bama you are the one arguing with me about the non lethal weapons which I approve of... so why all the silly bull... why should I note your stance that agrees with mine then . Are you arguing just to argue with silliness.

Butch

kdsub -> RE: Stun Guns & Tasers & Pepper Spray, Oh My (4/9/2014 8:13:06 PM)

Do you believe that gun owners should not be required to show they can safely handle their weapon before they receive a cc licence?

I believe you told me once you agreed with the above...so why should you oppose taser owners or stun gun owners receiving instruction and licencing?

I am not making a suggestion that these devices be illegal... just that those that own them be responsible and have the knowledge to use them properly.

Butch

Knifes are cheaper than guns, tazers, or mace.
This is particularly true of crackheads who have been known to walk through
repeated tazering and to ignore chemicals.
I trust my experience more than your theory.
You said that any weapon that can do permanent damage should be registered.
But you won't admit that this includes knives.
I have never supported registration.

No you are advocating their registration which I oppose.

kdsub -> RE: Stun Guns & Tasers & Pepper Spray, Oh My (4/9/2014 8:39:14 PM)

Bama when you get a conceal and carry licence you are registering... so what.

Butch

Actually I am not.
They don't even ask if you own a gun.
And it covers things like mace, pepper spray, tazers, and knives, and my sword cane.

MercTech -> RE: Stun Guns & Tasers & Pepper Spray, Oh My (4/11/2014 12:10:25 PM)

I suggest checking for the definition of "concealed weapon" in your jurisdiction.

In Mississippi, it includes "dirk", "arkansas toothpick", and "locking and fixed blade knives >4" length"

Prior to the revision of the concealed carry law to clarify, it had the effect of any construction worker carrying that "buck" knife in a belt sheath being guilty of carrying concealed without a permit. That was one of the reasons for the re-write of the law that hit the news media as "Mississippi legalizes open carry"

The insane fear of weapons that created "weapon free zones" like schools where "any edged or pointed weapon" is forbidden is one thing that leads school kids to being arrested for things like hair picks, rat tail combs, or nail clippers on weapons charges.

A group I belong to recently ran afoul of the "weapon free zones" issue with having to cancel a fencing demonstration at a high school. Are "baited rapiers" weapons? (Baited rapier... practice sword. Dull flat edge with flat button point padded with a rubber tip.) No winners there but a loss to the students getting a show.

FullCircle -> RE: Stun Guns & Tasers & Pepper Spray, Oh My (4/11/2014 3:49:34 PM)

I think one of the rules of using a Taser is you have to shout it three times when you are doing it to someone, it's part of the training...."Pencil, Pencil, Pencil!"

I think the primary function of a gun or Taser is to incapacitate whilst the primary function of a pencil is to write things. Therefore I'm guessing the licensing has to do with proving the metal state of a person buying something that can incapacitate rather than those that want to draw a life sketch. Anyway shouldn't you all have circumvented the governments with your 3D printers by now?

It could be that all the good assassins actually use pencils.

Do you think pencils should be licensed and registered?
That was the point I was making.

Presumably, if you don't mind taking the argument to one absurd extreme, you won't mind others taking the argument to the opposite extreme.

So, if you think hand guns should be unlicenced, then you must think that, for instance, intercontinental ballistic missiles should be similarly free of government control, too? Even if armed with nuclear warheads? I mean, *they're* made for self defence too, aren't they?

You picked one line out of a conversation.
He stated that any weapon capable of causing permanent injury should be registered.
It was he who opened it to any weapon. I was simply pointing our the impossibility of
his standard. He set the standard I didn't . You would be making a corresponding comment
if only I had said there should be absolutely no controls on any weapons.
You see the difference?

What is your point I have a permit to carry concealed weapons.
I have in the past carried swords in public with no problems.

And what difference does it make.

I was just wondering why you were carrying a sword in public that's all.

Historical reenactment.
It is so much fun going into a restaurant dressed as a Arab carrying a sword
and looking the place over like you want to buy it.
After 9/11 I had to be careful.
