Your watching Alligator Dundee too much...lol... No.... people with sense buy the weapons in this thread or guns for defense... Knives are for the kitchen... fishing and hunting and whittling and cleaning under the nails. A knife for self defense means a fight... in a crime they are pretty much useless against any of the weapons mentioned by the op. Butch

Do you believe that gun owners should not be required to show they can safely handle their weapon before they receive a cc licence? I believe you told me once you agreed with the above...so why should you oppose taser owners or stun gun owners receiving instruction and licencing? I am not making a suggestion that these devices be illegal... just that those that own them be responsible and have the knowledge to use them properly. Butch

This is particularly true of crackheads who have been known to walk through repeated tazering and to ignore chemicals. I trust my experience more than your theory. You said that any weapon that can do permanent damage should be registered. But you won't admit that this includes knives. I have never supported registration.

I suggest checking for the definition of "concealed weapon" in your jurisdiction. In Mississippi, it includes "dirk", "arkansas toothpick", and "locking and fixed blade knives >4" length" Prior to the revision of the concealed carry law to clarify, it had the effect of any construction worker carrying that "buck" knife in a belt sheath being guilty of carrying concealed without a permit. That was one of the reasons for the re-write of the law that hit the news media as "Mississippi legalizes open carry" The insane fear of weapons that created "weapon free zones" like schools where "any edged or pointed weapon" is forbidden is one thing that leads school kids to being arrested for things like hair picks, rat tail combs, or nail clippers on weapons charges. A group I belong to recently ran afoul of the "weapon free zones" issue with having to cancel a fencing demonstration at a high school. Are "baited rapiers" weapons? (Baited rapier... practice sword. Dull flat edge with flat button point padded with a rubber tip.) No winners there but a loss to the students getting a show.

I think one of the rules of using a Taser is you have to shout it three times when you are doing it to someone, it's part of the training...."Pencil, Pencil, Pencil!" I think the primary function of a gun or Taser is to incapacitate whilst the primary function of a pencil is to write things. Therefore I'm guessing the licensing has to do with proving the metal state of a person buying something that can incapacitate rather than those that want to draw a life sketch. Anyway shouldn't you all have circumvented the governments with your 3D printers by now? It could be that all the good assassins actually use pencils.

I have in the past carried swords in public with no problems.
