You mean like in the Jesse Ventura thread? Funny I don't remember people bashing him. In fact one poster claimed it was ok for him to be a millionaire and bitch about other millionaires because he really cares about the poor.

Lucylastic -> RE: Noooooooooo....it can't be true!!!!! (4/2/2014 9:44:58 AM)

oh?? I have made my comments known on him But isnt he a declared "Independent"?????

of course, ONE lib says its ok for him to be rich cos he helps the poor.... it means we all feel the same way huh...

Compared to the President's childhood home :)
Obama's Humble beginnings before he became Magna Cum Laude Harvard and turned down a high paying job on Wall Street to be a community organizer. He and Michelle's first date? Feeding the Homeless. What a tyrant!

[:D]

if he cared so damn much about the homeless then why is he, year after year, trying to limit the amount rich people can get a tax deduction for when they donate to charities? No doubt Obama was thinking ahead when he did his feeding the homeless stint, since it looks good to voters and all.. cutting snap and other benefits to poor people (like they couldn't find somewhere else to cut instead???)

and I think both parties suck..

I wouldn't know. I tend to think of them more as liberal scum.

I don't view Al Franken as elite.
Or Rachel Maddow.
Or Teddy Kennedy. I view him as a drunk murderer.
Al Sharpton .. race inciting bigot.
Jimmy Carter... not scum. weak, ineffectual.
Biden.. plagiarist

On the other hand... I like Joe Lieberman. Sam Nunn.

And before you get your panties in a wad.. I think the same of quite a few 'conservatives too'.
No need to name names.. I'm sure you'll do that for me.

Moonhead -> RE: Noooooooooo....it can't be true!!!!! (4/2/2014 11:33:52 AM)

This whole thread is that weird American misprision of the term "liberal", to mean somebody who's slightly less right wing than the crowd of libertarians, Jesus Freaks and anti taxation obsessives currently running the GOP. Nobody else would describe the Democrats as even vaguely left leaning or liberal...

Your opinion.

Franklin Delanor Roosevelt was against unionization of government workers.
Was against disability acts.
Was in favor of private ownership of corporations.
Broke union strikes during the war.

This makes him significantly to the right of significant numbers of current democrats in congress.
Ie., Of course democrats are way far left.

Tkman117 -> RE: Noooooooooo....it can't be true!!!!! (4/2/2014 12:09:27 PM)

...your democrats are where the republicans were decades ago, while your republicans are way to the right of where they once were. There's no such thing as an honest to god liberal in your political system. It's just varying shades of red.

One of them (nice wide tar brush you have there) might* have been sixty odd years ago, but they certainly aren't now.
The currently elected democrat would be largely indistinguishable from the chimp having a third and fourth term if it wasn't for all of the republicans whining that he's one of the other lot, so everything he does must be evil lefty nonsense.

*(emphasis on "might": he was also in favour of all sorts of lefty nonsense that would have both parties' elected representatives shitting blood if they were even mentioned as a possibility today)

Yeah, it's just the Republicans that are in the back pocket of the rich. Uh huh. [8|]

Desi, come on man....everyone knows the Republicans are out to get the poor, steal their babies formula's....even the folks that put together the "top 10 wealthiest Congressional Member's list" (which shows that in that same top 10, 7 of them are Democrats. Knowing that Republicans tend to come in wealthy...that kind of begs an intriguing question) know this shit...Republicans want to steal your babies formula!!!!

Get with the PROGRAM Des!!!!!!

Hmmmm....not so sure about that...could be right but....I think that may be a stretch. Most union agreements were held in abeyance during wars (prior to 1964, then after...not)...Lincoln arbitrated/eviscerated labor laws during the Civil War (as also did James Madison during the war of 1812)...fairly common stuff...stem the bleeding kind of stuff, ergo, strikes as well. As to the rest....factual. (The other is simply appeasement/structurally sound management...not necessarily a definitive stance against unions).

Do you think that may because they are talking about americans and american issues so they are comparing one side to the other and it has nothing to do with what being liberal means in other countries?

If the democrats care so much about the people, why did they just pass a bill that will delay ICD-10 coding and cost the health care system billions of dollars. Is it that they don't care or are they just really really stupid?

The democrats passed a bill?
HR 4302 - was sponsored in the House by Joe Pitts R-PA. It's main purpose was prevent the reduction in Medicare reimbursements to docs. ICD-10 was attached to it (by the Republicans)... John Boehner snuck it by in the House with a voice vote while no one was paying attention.

16 Republicans voted for it in the Senate, and overcame their own filibuster.

Being a key player in an ICD-10 rollout, I can say the delay is not costing us millions of dollars.

No, some Dems too! (especially at the local levels)... But mostly Republicans... There is a HELL of a lot more money in it for a Republican.

Damn near all politicians. There's plenty of money in it for any politician.

My point is...

Republicans have Oil, Wall Street Banks, Big Pharma, Health Insurance, Coal, Big Casinos, and Defense Contractors...

Dems have Jesse Jackson's race baiting Rainbow Coalition, most of Hollywood, George Soros, and a few "Green" companies...(except when the occasional Dem, reaches out to the list above)

MrRodgers -> RE: Noooooooooo....it can't be true!!!!! (4/7/2014 1:06:55 AM)

Go to most any typical middle class high school senior homeroom or social studies class. Ask them who is going to be a millionaire before they are 40. Almost everybody raises their hand. Quite a culture hey ?

First of all, Obamacare will be a boon for Big Pharma and Health Insurance. The Dem's are not strangers to the medical community. Wall Street Bankers have no allegiances to the GOP, and Dem's have no problem with that.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/10/30/1251781/-Democrats-need-to-go-after-Defense-Contractor-waste

While this is but a blog, it is on a "left-leaning" ([:D]) site, and within admits that Democrats aren't angels when it comes to Defense.

I have not ever heard a link between Republicans and Big Casinos. I'm neither denying, nor supporting the assertion. I've just never heard the link between the two. My assumption, though, is that Big Gambling is tied to both sides.

It's not the "occasional Dem" that reaches out to your list of those in the pocket of the GOP, either. IIRC, Obama got more campaign donations than McCain from Big Banking in 2008. And, it's disingenuous, at the very least, to make the GOP out to be worse since there is more money available to them (which I highly doubt is true to begin with). That's like saying that the Democrats aren't the problem since they aren't as corrupt as the GOP.

Both parties are corrupt. Both parties are tied to "Big (Insert Noun of Your Choice Here)." Big Business needs to be separated from Big Government, regardless of the party it supports more. It's not about the GOP, or the Dem's. It's about both.

You mean you have never heard of Shel Adelson who spent, 92 million....in one election
I posted the other day about him..and a few other times..

During the 2012 Republican Party presidential primaries, Adelson first supported Newt Gingrich and then the eventual nominee Mitt Romney.[46] Altogether he spent 92 million dollars supporting losing candidates during the 2012 United States presidential election cycle.[47] On January 7, 2012, Adelson bolstered Gingrich's then-faltering campaign with a $5-million donation to the pro-Gingrich super PAC Winning Our Future.[48] By the next day, the super PAC had reserved more than $3.4 million in advertising time in the South Carolina primary, which included production and distribution of a half-hour movie that portrayed Gingrich's political rival Mitt Romney as a "predatory corporate raider".[49] On January 23, Adelson's wife, Miriam, contributed an additional $5 million to the same organization with instructions to use it to advance a "pro-Newt message".[50][51] Adelson told Forbes that he was willing to donate as much as $100 million to Gingrich.[52]

He also donated $5 million to the right-leaning[53] super PAC Congressional Leadership Fund[54] and over $60,000 to the Republican National Committee.

In June 2012, Adelson donated $10 million to the pro-Romney PAC Restore Our Future.[55] In July, Adelson attended a Romney fundraiser held in Jerusalem.[56] Adelson joined Woody Johnson, John Rakolta, Paul Singer, and several dozen other contributors on the trip.[57] According to Bloomberg Businessweek, as of July Adelson already had given Republicans more than $30 million for the 2012 election cycle.[57]
