Real Life plus points:
+ You have to meet people face to face, therefore you know the person you're talking to is the person you're talking to.
+ When you first say hello to someone you can legally expect them to be wearing clothes and not fondling their crotch at the same time.
+ If someone insults you and disappears, at least you have a reasonable idea of what gender they were
+ Women can slap men whose opening line is 'wud u like to see me naeked'

Internet Plus Points
+ You don't have to meet people face to face, therefore you can be wearing an unwashed tracksuit and unkempt hair and still be Kate Moss/Brad Pitt
+ You can finish your game of poker/backgammon/trivia without interrupting your sexual flow
+ You can change your location, identity, gender and everything else without putting your coffee down
+ You can ask a woman if she'd like to see you naked without getting slapped

So are you for or against the internet? There are pros and cons for both, I'm sure. Since I'm in a silly mood today...

Internet pluses:
* You can ignore and totally bypass rude people with the click of a mouse button.
*You can work on chores while you chat, and it isn't rude because you can't make eye-contact with them anyway.

Internet drawbacks:
*There's no way to prove who or what you're actually talking to.
*If the power goes out or your computer crashes, the conversation is over.

Real life pluses:
*You can confirm who and what you're talking to.
*You can go do something fun besides TYPE!

Real life drawbacks:
*If your date turns out to be a serial killer and you're too trusting... well, there won't be a repeat performance on your part. Ever.
*If your date is harmless but truly obnoxious... you can't just turn off the computer.

Guess I'm odd in that the internet is simply a tool, a means to an end and not an end in itself, a way to connect easily to other people. I know a lot of people see the internet as the means and THE end itself. I have never understood that philosophy, but to each his/her own.

This slave would also agree. I have never used the internet as THE way of meeting people; and those whom I have met through this venue; within 2 days we have met in RL.
Even those who only ask for casual chat between us, it is insisted that a face to face meeitng be arranged. Master says that if a person can not make time to have a cup of coffee with you, then they are not worth wasting time on. It is something that I agree with completly.

I think the OP simply means for this to be a fun posting place for Internet vs Real Life ... not for a discussion on the pros and cons.. I find the opening two were great.. anyone else have any.. my mind isnt being creative right now...

Online D/s is a computer game and shouldn't be taken any more seriously than that. Online is also a source of frustration I have found so I really wouldn't entertain it for a relationship other than getting to know someone enough to meet, though I have never used it for such. Actually online is a good distraction from work, which is one of its major plus points I guess. I wouldn't let it interfere with my free time however.

R/l is the real thing and to me there is no comparison.

Other than that, online is a tool if you want to meet someone or gain information.

Real life pro point. You can stop someone mid-sentence and say "You're perhaps being a little more serious than I intended" before they finish.

Internet Negatives:
-It's hard to tell if the person you're talking to on the other end is being serious or not.
-You could be taken too seriously, then get into an arguement about whatever it was you were joking about.
-You can't see emotion through a computer

Real Life Drawbacks:
-Sometimes you see too much emotion
-If you meet someone in RL that you met online, you might not have the same chemistry you had with a computer between the two of you.

I tend to disagree... you can see emotion if you or they have a webcam...whether or not it is genuine is another point.

I always use my webcam with my Mentor...though it is almost always a face cam only....He still sees my emotions and can almost always tell what I am thinking.

Yes, typing with one hand is kind of hard, isn't it.

Internet plus: you can blow off people you will never see (probably)

RL drawback: It's hard to blow off people who know where you live and your numbers.

I think webcams didn't come into consideration for me because i don't use mine when talking with Master online. And i'm not allowed to use it with other people.

But i'm happy for you that you and your Mentor have that type of connection.

internet advantage: you can "fake it" and pretend to be doing naughty things while the other person is typing with one hand

r/l disadvantage: faking anything is usually a really really bad thing

I would say r/l you get a better understanding of how the person is feeling when something is said on the net you have to guess if it was just a light hearted remark or not.

edited to add: Most of the things people say on the net they would never say face to face. Which it makes it a lot easier to be a internet rambo.

The internet is mostly harmless fun. I don't think it's that good a tool for meeting people. True, some have found the love of their life, but who's to say they wouldn't have found someone by spending the same amount of time at events, or clubs, or at the beach for that matter.

Even if all you do here is try to have some harmless fun, people still try to fuck with your head. They usually end up telling you to stop emailing them, even though you weren't the one that started the communication in the first place.

In that regard, the internet is like Middle School, where guys that you never even gave the time of day to, dream up relationships with you, only to call you names when the "relationship" turns out to be nothing.
