slavejlb -> best beward big brother is watching again (7/7/2006 7:40:08 AM)

Hello:

I heard in the news today, that some one is using Craig List for breaking the Anti-decimation law because people have been posting for certain types of roommates.
I am sorry I see nothing wrong with specifying what you are looking for when renting out a private room. It is not like a apartment building, or some buying a house. I feel if you are sharing an apartment you know what makes you comfort and safe. You know do to you life style or such what type of person you get along with.
I personal feel this should be a bogus law suit.
This is my rant for the day
Take care and be safe

i thought it was 4 units and up- that no discrimination kicked in. as per a room,,, one can pick and choose.

Yeah, you can advertise for the type of roomate of your choice.
If you own a rental condo like I do you can discriminate as to what type of people you want also.
I wouldn't worry too much about "Big Brother"; a lot of Senators who voted for that "Amnesty" Bill are going to be leaving in the next three elections anyway.
Now, if we could only get Lou Dobbs to run as an Independant!

i like lou dobbs. i do think he could make more of an issue on net neutrality.  tho he is as good as mainstream media gets. he did watch the dubai ports deal- which isnt as gone as we thought.

surprise.

it does puzzle me- how some claim the economy collapses if illeglas go back.
we could start be enforcing exisitng law.

I'd like to go alot farther than that. When I was younger I wanted to buy a whole neighborhood and have the residents control who could rent or buy there, with me in charge of course.

This would not be based on race, but personal preference. I like heavy metal and rock, and some hillbilly. Rappers would be unwelcome just as those who want to listen to Lawrence Welk. Their kids would be evaluated. No hellions.

Of course this did not happen, but at one time it was a real possibility. Thing is it has become so friggin difficult to buy a house in this neigborhood it's not funny.

I know that it did happen across the main road. There is a street with a cul de sac on which one person owns 90% of the houses. Nice area, very nice. You never see a house for rent or sale there.

Personally, if say I owned an apartment building, the credit and background check would be so intense that I could indeed pick and choose tenents. Make them very competitively priced and get alot of applicants. After their credit is approved then comes the interview, err,,, showing. They have to bring EVERYONE who is to live in the apartment. All the kids, cousins, whatever.

You Black, White ? no problem. Got teenage kids ? How are their grades ? Yes indeed. The law says you cannot discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed or religion, and I have no intention of doing so. It doesn't say anything about any other criteria you may use in choosing tenents. Look at the ridiculous pacts people sign to get into a certain condo development. First hand I have seen people in $300,000 houses not allowed to put up Christmas decorations on the house. Are they kidding ? He thought he bought the place, but appartently not.

Rant over.

T

Perhaps it is a large apartment complex or property management company using craigslist to skate by the anti-discrimination laws? Perhaps more than one complex has done this?
