People have a right to buy cigarettes, sure. Grown-ups are free to do as they wish, so long as it harms no one else.

That, however, in no way implies CVS has an obligation to sell them. As a private business, they can carry or not carry whatever (legal) products they wish.

If FOX thinks having a meltdown over it will in some way appeal to their audience, more power to them. Personally I think they just look silly.

Where is the freak out? Seriously, asking whether a legal product should be sold or not is hardly a freak out... But then again, the sky is always falling somewhere for progressives.

I read about CVS earlier today. I'm a smoker. Do I care? Not a bit. I rarely shop at CVS for anything since they are more expensive anyway. Only time I go there is if I was released from the ER after my pharmacy closes because there is a 24 hour one on the way home.

In NJ, "drug stores" (walgreen, cvs, rite aid, etc) are not permitted to sell alcohol. I've actuall always found it strange that you could get valium and booze at the same place.

Really, though, the stores can decide what they sell or don't. Some people may stop shopping there, most will just buy cigs elsewhere. Considering CVS stores are usually in highly populated areas not out in the sticks, there is always somehwere else to go. Quick check, wa wa, 7 eleven..all open 24 hours, all sell cigarettes. And coffee, you can get coffee at those places, never at CVS.

My party? I'm not a Republican. I've told you that numerous times. In fact, if those online political quizzes are worth anything, I'm actually a little left of center in most of my views. Why do you keep posting lies about me?

Well if they're really interested in promoting health, then they better start! [:D]

A company made a decision to not sell a product. Their call.

As someone who has a condition which nicotine benefits, they've just assured themselves that they've lost about $100 per week of my business.

I have a CVS less than 200 yards from where I live. I pop in, get my smokes, pick up a gallon of milk, get some toothpaste, etc. I won't be doing that, anymore because I'll be "forced" to go to the Walgreen's down the street to get my nicotine and I'll pick up my incidentals, there, as well.

God bless the free market system.

Isn't CVS already in a bit of a financial pinch?

No one cares about junk food. What I want to see is the reaction if they say they are going to stop selling birth control pills or the morning after drug.

As to CVS stopping the sale of smokes....who cares. There are a bunch of other stores and they were not the cheapest. All this means is they won't get the extra cash I usually end up spending when I go in to buy cigarettes and I am ok with that.

Normally I try to avoid watching fox but I decided it might be fun to watch them "freak out" over something. So now that I have watched the clip the only conclusion I can come up with is the author doesn't understand what "freak out" means. That or he thinks he can lie and people will believe it without bothering to watch the clip. Not only didn't the women speaking freak out but they did a poll of the audience and the majority of them had no problem with CVS stopping the sale of tobacco products. So it turns out all we have here is another lying reporter trying to stir up shit in the war between the red and blue. What a surprise [8|]

FR

saw the video and there wasn't as big a freak out as you guys suggest. The 3 guest anchors (I'm guessing thats what they were) completely supported CVSs decision as a private business. While they're a biased news station, they're still a news station and still have the right to report and discuss what happens in this world. The lead anchor definitely had a little more of a bias considering her questions and statements, but there wasn't really a freak out here, just a story that was being reported and discussed.

While I dislike fox news, this kind of accusation is weak at best, misleading at most. They talk about many more controversial topics and make so many more insulting statements than this, so attacking them for this just seems like a waste of energy that could have been used else ware.

Owner59 -> RE: Rightists freak the F&%k out over CVS decision.. (2/6/2014 8:05:11 AM)

Couple key strokes and some thoughts....tis all.

[;)]

It`s part of a larger mass hysteria where every innocuous social shift or cultural change, business decision or fade, is this secret conspirisy against conservatives...(as if the WHOLE world revolves around their whiny asses)[:D]...

The folks at blame are the perfect scapegoats...faceless, unknown (non-existent) and uncontrollable agents of the liberal agenda.... picking only the stories that make cons look like ass holes while hiding the ones that might hurt dems.

As well as waging a war on Christmas,[8|],destroying marriage, being race traitors, waging class warfare [8|],etc...

If you listen to the fox news narrative, every single news event is a ploy by President Obama "to distract from" (insert fake scandal here)...

Jon Stewart put together a "to distract from"-fox-montage that exposes a creepy, Orwellian manipulation to the news-day,with at one hilarious point, one fox-head was alternately accusing the president of using story 'A" to distract from story'B' while another fox-head was claiming the President was using story 'B' to distract from story 'A'....One could write better comidy if they were trying...

You are correct though.....that the constant, irrational man-bites-dog phony stories have lost their novelty and more and more, the news consuming public in general is rejecting faux-news.
