Jenny McCarthy and those like her for this wonderful bit of news.

quote:

For most of us, measles and whooping cough are diseases of the past. You get a few shots as a kid and then hardly think about them again.

But that's not the case in all parts of the world — not even parts of the U.S.

As an from the Council on Foreign Relations illustrates, several diseases that are easily prevented with vaccines have made a comeback in the past few years. Their resurgence coincides with changes in perceptions about vaccine safety.

Source

I want to thank you people that believe the bullshit about vaccines on behalf of everyone that has caught a preventable disease. I am sure those people who cant afford to get their kids vaccinated really love the wonderful and affordable hospital bills that come with measles, whooping cough, polio and such.

Thank you very much.

I also wish to thank the politicians who have cut funding for vaccination programs for the poor. I know, illegal aliens were getting their kids vaccinated, so you had good reason.

As for the resurgence in western countries, the only part that has to do with displaced people is the fact that some infected refugee came into the country, after that, it was thanks to anti vaccine people.

There have been cases of typhoid, meningitis, diphtheria in recent years, as well typhus all of which have vaccines.

But hey, look on the bright side, for the most part it will be idiots and illegal immigrants that catch these bugs.

While measles and whooping cough are bad enough I anticipate the return of polio to the US as these morons continue to not vaccinate their kids.

Childhood vaccinations are a very well addressed public health matter in the US. "Can't afford it" isn't part of the equation. Laziness and pure foolishness are the only causes in this country.

No need for such morons to deal with passing the background check, paying money, or go through a waiting period. They can just go dance on the freeway at night, without spending a nickel.

Please tell me that you don't have to pay to get vaccinations against these types of diseases in the USA. No country's health policy could be that right wing, selfish, nasty and just frigging thick, surely?

There are free vaccine programs, which have taken serious funding hits in recent years, add to that a few states require a birth certificate which causes problems for people in the states illegally, need I go on?

Didn't Jenny McCarthy used to speak out AGAINST vaccinating kids because she believed that's what made her son autistic?

She still does, that's the point of the post. A sarcastic thank-you to all those people that tell people to not to vaccinate their kids, who have now caused dangerous childhood diseases to make a come-back in the US. Ugh.

I think you have to consider the contributions made to the problem by worker migration, and populations dislocated by wars. Don't misunderstand. I support public health vaccination programs. I simply find it hard to believe that Jenny McCarthy is having so huge an impact in Africa.

She and her fellow travelers have.

They have inspired stuff like this:

"Fellow travelers" Ken? Really? I have no sympathy for Jenny McCarthy's cause and no intention to defend its philosophy but there is no indication of her reliance on spiritual healing that I could find on her website. OTOH, the video you posted relates incidents of resistence to vaccines from people who believe in spiritual healing. The video also supports my comments about migration as a source of the spread of childhood diseases. Civil wars in the Middle East and in Africa have resulted in large dislocations of people. Historically, such dislocations have been the source of epidemics in receiving countries. I think JLF's interpretation of the map is questionable is all.

I think she was talking about chelation, not faith healing?

Anti-vaccine people don't understand vaccines. They also don't understand the statement, "what doesn't kill you, makes your stronger". They constantly talk about how exposure to diseases ultimately makes their immune system stronger, so that it is "better" to not vaccinate. Yes, well, that's great if it doesn't kill you. Vaccines work by mimicking disease agents and stimulating the immune system to build up defenses against them. In other words, vaccines actually work with your immune system to, in fact, make your immune system stronger. I have never understood their arguments against even well established vaccinations given the risks to the overall community. Non-vaccinated people are free riding off of those of us who are vaccinated. They are only safe because the base line levels of the diseases are so low because people have been vaccinated. Only conclusion I can draw is that the anti-vaccine people are just plain stupid. What we need is a vaccine against stupidity….

She definitely supports spiritual healing.

Anti-vax stands on its own as a crackpot movement without any help from spiritual healing. Mummsy and Daddsy may dabble in homeopathy and fengshui, but they still get their Botox and Viagra and valium. It's just that their precious little muffin must be allowed to go to school and infect as many of the other kids as possible, because muffin is... well, just super special don't you see?

The creeps I've run into may not represent everyone who won't vaccinate, but they fell well within the overlap of vegan, midwifery, breastfeeding 10 year olds, Deepaking, $120 yoga matting, bottled boutique water ignorati.

And not in a good way.

People from populations traditionally seen as incubators for TB etc. have been moving around the world for many, many decades, and TB was almost eradicated, not that long ago.

Now it's widespread again, due to human superstition and stubbornness.

That isn't purely down to the anti vaccine cuntbubbles, though: the antibiotic immune strains that have been emerging for a decade or so are more to do with fuckwits who can't be bothered to finish a course of tablets once their symptoms have vanished breeding superior forms of TB.
