We as Americans are to be blamed for the way news agencies have shifted from the 'Walter Cronkite' days. Back then, news was very informative and journalist competed to bring the best information to the individual viewer. Opinions were generally restricted to the editorial pages. Unfortunately as time progressed, this model of 'information giving' was outdated. Less and less Americans were watching the TV news stations, or reading the paper, as both were.....BORING. FOX News was the first to really experiment with 'sensational news coverage'. Stuff that really got people to watch their news over the others, and thereby earn more revenue dollars from advertisers. Each company soon followed suit in a variety of ways.

Unfortunately this also saw the deterioration of journalistic credibility and integrity. Stories were soon being written to excite the viewer rather than inform them. When we hear of a bill in the House, how many online sites post an actual link to the bill? Or even successful identify the bill for a simple Google search? There are many articles that look like freshman in high school completed a class project rather than a professional's workmanship. Added to this, are the invisible 'lines' of politics of the day. That if one identifies themselves as 'A' they will be less likely to follow information coming from location 'B' since 'B' is usually against the concepts.

For any one news source, I have to check about five to nine different places just to get the majority of facts and vet the information for accuracy and integrity. What the hell happened to good journalism? That asking good and tough questions minus the political slant is no longer used, since it doesn't bring in advertising dollars is now the most acceptable way of doing business, is rather wrong in my book. Reporters either cant or are unwilling to ask questions for the sake of getting all the information together and verified for accuracy. One only needs to head on over to the Drudge Report to find how 'one sided' their 'information' is to the viewer.

Why do I blame us Americans? We are the ones allowing this crap to continue.

Yeah, this is all pretty much a pile of excrement.

Growing up watching network news, reading NY Times, Atlanta Journal, Boston Globe, and newsmagazines such as Time and Newsweek - I - and thousands like me - grew pretty disgusted with the constant blatant liberal bias.

So when we had the opportunity to listen to talk radio, read internet news stories, or (for some) watch fox news - we jumped at it.

This is the reason that msnbc or Air America (or time, or newsweek, or thousands of newspapers) - we don't have to view that crap any more. And you liberal readers are two few to support the numbers of liberal voice pieces.

Now, frankly, fox news has too few viewers to really do news - it takes financial wherewithal to do that.
But it would be interesting of one of the big three were to switch. It would pretty much guarantee 1 place in news - and clip fox at the same time.

Some facts the ultra right wing writer lied about:
1) The Florida group that pushed for the drug testing of food stamp applicants is definitely funded by the Koch brothers and it isn't a thousand bucks either.
2) The group did definitely try and use their "success" in Florida to push that legislation in other states and they definitely did it with the knowledge and approval of the Koch brothers.

Maddow is on solid ground with her story. If she wasn't then she would be in serious danger of being sued by two of the wealthiest people on Earth for defamation and no network legal team would have let her air the story.

Any like.. sources?

Sure do but why should I bother posting them when all you'll do is lie about them?

I might have to copy/paste this for later use, Ken. Thanks!

Nah.Nancy Grace had a contract before there was a Fox News I think.
AFAIC recall, the OJ trial is when things really shifted. Either that or Rodney King. Somewhere round about then, the media outlets discovered they got significantly higher rating for sensationalism than news. Since then,it's been a quick fall as news outlets have decided that integrity has a price and that it's pretty small, that short term gains beat long term institutional stability, and that jettisoning any pretense at neutrality to advance political agendas makes for much better ratings.
Hey-what could more American than selling out for the quick buck? It's symptiomatic across society

Yellow Journalism predates the electronic medium.

OJ was 1995 Also in 1995, Dateline NBC news rigged a gas tank on a GMC truck to explode on camera so they could concoct a scare mongering non-story. Shortly after that, an independent journalist did a documentary exposing another one of Dateline's exposes.

I seem to recall that during the defamation trials, one of the female anchors pulled a Screen Actors Guild card out and claimed that she wasn't a reporter, she was simply an entertainer reading from a 'what-if' script.

I link the birth of 'info-tainment' to that period.

Come on, Pops! Of course the Koch brothers aren't on the ship stuck in the ice. They are under the ice, controlling it, which is the only reason the ship got stuck at all!!! [:D]

Wouldn't that mean they're responsible for global cooling which they've been engaged in for the last 17 years; just to discredit algore?

mnottertail -> RE: More hysteria at MSNBC (1/8/2014 11:17:39 AM)

But they are pouring money into denails of climate change and insuring the nutsackers ignore it and fight only the small portion of global warming.

The only real controversy at all is in nutsackers minds, the science is still pretty well along the lines of humans are heavy participants in the climate change.

popeye1250 -> RE: More hysteria at MSNBC (1/8/2014 11:34:54 AM)
