I've read a few blogs lately on another site that got me thinking. In one of them there was a statement that men were losing their libido, in the other someone felt ashamed to be male. Both blamed to an extent the demonization of masculine traits, and the increasing portrayal of men as idiots in mainstream media (e.g. Homer Simpson). There were other factors they brought to the blogs as well but it was the concepts of masculinity and femininity that got my cogs turning. Can you actually define traits as masculine and feminine anymore? Are they outdated concepts? What are masculine and feminine traits? Perhaps it's just because I crossdress that the lines are now so blurred to me that I cannot distinguish a difference, or even any point of dividing traits by gender. I actually identify as male even when I crossdress, I've only met one other that does the same in nearly 7 years of being on the scene. (Though I daresay there are more of us out there). I see nothing wrong with adopting another gender identity, I just thought the background may help :) I considered putting this in General BDSM but figured it was more to do with sexuality as a whole rather than specifically towards kink. With the recent topic of transgender changing rooms popping up as well it seemed about the right time to pose this thought, and see what others think.

Hmm. That is a very excellent question!! I think that ALL human traits are evident in both sexes. But in different degrees. Some Men Can be nurturing and emotional and sensitive. It is just not as strong in them as it is in most women. Some Women Can be aggressive ( think momma bear) forceful, decisive. It's just not as strong as it is in most men. I think of it as a pie chart. Male and Females just have different ratios of the exact same traits. Plus. We each have jiggly bits. Ours in our chest. Theirs between their legs.

Well, I have a full beard. I'm pretty sure that's a masculine trait. There is also the dangly bit that Blonderfluff mentioned. That's kind of definitive, don't you think? As for the rest? Check my profile: I am a straight male who likes cooking, musicals and pretty shoes on the ladies. checks porn folder on PC Yup, still straight. Hows this for an idea? Stop worrying about it. You're already a cross-dresser and that's going to get you negative comments even without worrying about what is masculine or not. Hey, guess what? In addition to musicals and pretty shoes I also like hunting, am an avid collector of firearms and am constantly pissed off at the neighbor's dog. I also play Dungeons and Dragons, write code, study science, study religion and play poker. Is any of that masculine or feminine? The answer is that I'm just me. Take it or leave it. And by the ay, I know your holding pocket kings so I fold.

Lol, no I'm not worrying about it as such, the above is remarkably similar to what I put on one of those blogs :-P (though not the comment about about pocket kings... is that a king in your pocket or? [8D] ) I just found the idea interesting, looking at the list littlewonder provided I wonder just how much is nature and how much is nurture (jiggly bits and physical characteristics aside [;)] ) And I suppose a teensy part of the idea was to get others thinking, and to worry about it less too

I spoke to a transgender who mentioned that, after she started taking hormones, her skin softened and her sense of smell got more acute.

ok, here's my 2 cents.....I have a hard time thinking of ppl as him or her I have - in the course of the years - fell in love a number of times. all of these times , i have fell in love with the PERSON irregardless of the gender I believe that the gender is the mind... i.e. if you were born with a certian "dangly part" or "axe mark" it is up to YOU to define your gender... if you're a "man" feeling like a woman....well, you're a woman to me and vice versa if you're a woman feeling like a man, I will treet you like that IMO gender is in the mind!
