I like:
A Fairytale of New York - The Pogues with Kristy MacColl
Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses
Anything by the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

What! Jews can have favorite Christmas songs too! We're forced to listen to them on the radio for weeks too.

Edit: found my favorite of his

Also, Carol of the Bartenders
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4NlR5KQLQ8

The vid says this is Bob Rivers also, but I'm not so sure that's true. I've heard it attributed to someone else, though I don't remember who. It's really well done, whoever created it.

For the most part, I hate Christmas music. Blah!

That being said, I do have two Christmas themed songs that I do enjoy (and don't make me want to gouge out my ear drums with a screwdriver):

"Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" by John Lennon (and Yoko Ono in really tiny print)
"Do They Know It's Christmas?" by Band Aid

Are You Burning Little Candle?

Lyrics:
Are you burning, little candle?
High upon the Christmas tree
Symbol of a new beginning
Faith and hope and sweet release

Remind us
Of the children's faces
Full of wonder and surprise
Of the laughter in their voices
The sweetness in their eyes

When they wake up in the morning
With the feeling in their heart
That there's joy in the air
And they know that they're a part
Shine your light on me, little candle

Are you shining, little star?
Shining in the skies above
Lift us up into the heavens
Symbol of the light of love

Are you spinning, little dreidel?
Spinning tales of long ago
Spinning past the little cradle
Tell us what we used to know

Remind us
Of the children's faces
Full of wonder and surprise
Of the laughter in their voices
The sweetness in their eyes

Are you watching, little angel?
High above the Christmas tree
Angels all around the world
Hear us as we pray for peace

Remind us
Of the children's faces
Full of wonder and surprise
Of the laughter in their voices
The sweetness in their eyes

Are you listening, little pine tree?
Silent midst the glistening snow
Symbol of the forest stillness
Deepest joy that man can know

Are you singing, little children?
Singing loud and strong and clear
Singing all around the world
Sing it loud so we can hear

Shine your light on me
Little candle, little star
Little angel, little children
Shine your light on me

Ebenezer's carol by the Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing. Cockney steampunks tell us of the real story behind Dickens' A Christmas Carol

I'm Getting Pissed for Christmas by Peter & the Test Tube Babies. Because we shouldn't forget what's really important about the Christmas season.

Father Christmas by the Kinks. Christmas used as an excuse for singing about the class system. Because English.

It's Cliched to be Cynical at Christmas by Half Man Half Biscuit. HMHB take a break from being grumpy about hallmark CDs, Pete Doherty and people who walk in the middle of the pavement to get into the festive spirit.

We're All Going to Die by Malcolm Middleton. Drunken Scottish miserablist releases possibly the least appropriate Christmas single ever. The video needs watching to get the full Christmasy effect.

There's nothing wrong with that at all! Some "Christmas" songs don't even mention Christmas at all.
Heck, I catch myself singing the dreidel song sometimes.

To answer your question, no I don't usually like the off beat songs. My favorites have always been the older classics sung by artists like James Taylor and Johnny Mathis.
And the Trans Siberian Orchestra is awesome.

Okay, the Joe Boxer/K-mart commercial...Mom laughs at it every time it comes on.

I have no favorites really. I am Paganistic/Shaman but I do put up a tree for the kids and buy presents. If Mom does not mind, I go outside and dance around on the 21st, honoring the Solstice

Not putiing up links because Google is trying to fuck over my PC, but:

Stuff The Turkey (Alien Sex Fiend)
Hey Santa (UK Subs)
and there's a really good version of The Cherry Tree Carol by Steeleye Span...

It ain't the 21st, yet, mate: give her a couple of days then ask again.

Patience isn't in my bailiwick. Nor is it in my wheelhouse.

Come to think of it, unless paitence is wearing 4 inch stilletos and kneeling at my feet I probably won't even notice her.

Moonhead -> RE: Favorite offbeat Christmas carols? (12/19/2013 1:14:51 PM)

She's a nice girl is Patience, she doesn't wear heels.
I think that could be part of her problem in this case...

Hillwilliam -> RE: Favorite offbeat Christmas carols? (12/19/2013 1:16:58 PM)

I kinda like this old classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgIwLeASnkw

I believe in Father Christmas - Gregg Lake
Do They Know It's Christmas - Band Aid
Grown Up Christmas List - Amy Grant
Oh What a Wonderful Christmas Day - from Mickey's Christmas Carol
Christmas Chimes are Calling - 'Twas the Night Before Chritsmas

EdBowie -> RE: Favorite offbeat Christmas carols? (12/19/2013 11:31:42 PM)

We 3 Kings Miles Davis, Marcus Miller, and David Sanborn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgm_dh2a31Q

In the movie Scrooged, the Bill Murray character famously sneers 'What, did ya learn the song yesterday?' at Miles, David, and Larry Carlton as buskers.

angelikaJ -> RE: Favorite offbeat Christmas carols? (12/20/2013 6:51:05 AM)

2 on the over-commercialization of Christmas:

Green Christmas by Stan Freberg

And with Miles Davis:
Blue Xmas (To Whom It May Concern)

tommonymous -> RE: Favorite offbeat Christmas carols? (12/20/2013 8:03:01 AM)

I don't know if it's been included yet, but I really like Merry Christmas From the Family by Robert Earl Keene.
