I see more and more profiles from the other side coming here asking why they turn up as 'profile not found'. Most of the offenders used, ahem, pictures that don't belong to them. I like the new sticky about what could potentially be wrong (hopefully the miscreants will read it). Nice job, powers that be. Thank you!

I had noticed a larger number than usual who posted about their profile not showing up and was wondering what was happening. I do love the sticky. It has a touch of humor about it, but it is to the point. Sadly the people who need to read it only come to the forums to complain and whine.

Yes, I am crazy about feathered creatures. I have a dozen chickens, 3 ducks, 5 geese, and 2 parakeets.

Revise that number. Just got 14 new chicks and 5 turkeys.

Well, I noticed that guidelines for posting pictures changed. It now says:

quote:

Please only post pictures you took yourself
Please do not post commercial photos or artwork
Overly genital focused primary photos may be removed

This new policy is enforced very selectively, to put it generously. Look at avatars on the forum that are not photos of the posters (maybe 50%). Notice that they clearly weren't taken or created by the poster, yet they have not been pulled.

When you create a profile cm gives you a bunch of avatars to choose from if you want. That is where I got mine.

Just notice the avatars as you read posts. You will see photos and images that are obviously taken off the net. You will see what I am talking about. I am not pointing them out because they belong to posters I like.

An approval process would mean that every new member would have to be looked at by a volunteer to approve, or general crack down would mean that the volunteers would have to go through every profile to look at photos, which isn't feasible.

So, no, it's not enforced selectively. It's enforced when the photos are reported.

Also, keep in mind that the avatars on this side are not necessarily the photos in a persons profile. They can be selected separately.

Would somebody please educate me about what a "sticky" is? I've seen it used a couple posts, but do not understand what it refers to.

It's a thread that is "stuck" to the top of a forum, to make sure it doesn't disappear off the page.

If the policy is enforced only when a photo is reported, that IS selective enforcement. The policy gives people a tool to use to fuck with someone, and still allows dozens or hundreds of "stolen" images to be used as avatars. And the only such avatars I'm speaking of are the same on this side as the profile side. If the site owners didn't want to enforce this selectively, and don't have time to enforce it against everyone, then they should stop enforcing it at all.

I haven't seen the actual sticky. I've seen the response to the question of "why can't anybody see the profile" and the link to the particular thread where the original answer that is being used by the Mods for the cases being described. As I've been interpreting it, the response is being used for various forms of violation regarding profiles. Not just stolen pics but also things like violating ToS for stuff like linking other websites or selling used <cough> personal items.

I can't imagine the monumental task it would be to try to search through and find every pic that didn't meet the criteria for a person to use it. From what I've read, Fet has the same problem regarding other people's play pics or art work. There are even groups over there dedicated to the debate aka the REAPS and the Anti REAPS. Interesting reading.

Profile avatars are set by the CollarCHAT profile. The photos policy you're on a soapbox about pertains to CollarME profiles only. Different web sites, different profiles, different terms of service.

I didn't know that. I've only set up a profile on the collarme side, not on the collarchat side. I never chose an avatar picture on the collarchat side. And when I put my profile on the collarme side on hide, that action hid it on the collarchat side automatically. I must be profoundly stupid to see these 2 sites as connected.

It's possible to link the two profiles but it's not required. One can maintain a CollarChat profile without maintaining and active CollarMe profile.

And no, the photo moderation is not selectively enforced. If you click the Report button on the CollarMe side, there's a message in big red letters that says inappropriate content is removed by an automated system. Unless, of course, you're suggesting that the machines have achieved sentience and SkyNet has become a reality.
