I use Dragon Dictate, for the Mac, on a regular basis. For me it works very well.

I am using it to "type" this.

I am sorry that others are having difficulty: the reviews of the PC version seem to indicate that it had improved greatly.

I think it would matter if you actually sat down,  closed the door, and saw the words appear as you spoke them.

If you were watching TV, cooking dinner, and yelling across the room to the computer, I do see where some of the value of the journaling process would be lost.

On that front a friend of mine with severe carpal tunnel spoke to someone who multitasked like crazy... running a large organization, and doing all sorts of research and fund raising around the world, plus politics...  and he said that the only version of Dragon that didn't aggravate him was the Executive version, which costs quite a few coins.  FWIW, he also had that flat Midwestern accent that is considered the 'norm' in linguistics.

But again, if you are in a truly quiet space, you might not need that fancy a version.

yes. but see with the insane journaling you bring the journal in and she reads it an then you can talk about it. so if dragon worked as good as it claimed you would still be bringing the journals in for her to read. you just wouldn't have hand typed it an believe me when your mind flies and your hands can kind of keep up but you have hours of a t housand miles an hour brain blogging you can't keep up lol.

The only thing I can suggest is to try it. It may accept your voice profile or it may not. Give it a shot and see if it works.

I don't think it'll work so well for therapy simply because there is no feedback. That's sort of the point for therapy, is it not?

Looks like it must have been the Professional version at $600.

"Looks like it must have been the Professional version at $600."

Ed, if you were asking me? My version of the software is 3.0.4, and if I remember correctly, it cost approximately $150.00 with upgrades at $30.00 or so.

I like it better than what Apple gives me out of the box with OS 10 Mavericks.

I've attempted to use the earlier (6.0) version before and while humorous to see the testing and training results, it required too much editing later to justify using it. And when I was tutoring English in college, I could always see the ones who used Dragonspeak when they were sent to me for help with their writing.

I'm a trained voice actor and can moderate my accent to a very neutral Midwestern one easily, but the program still can't 'hear' me correctly. I've heard the Exec version is very good, but still needs polishing before presentation. Stick with the keyboard and if you do it enough, it becomes 'stream of consciousness'-like when you're typing.

But the YouTube idea sounds good, too.
