Status: offline 		The withdrawals are horrible. I do have solitaire, spider solitaire and mahjong games as back-up when my net goes down, but when it black outs, I get a lantern out and either read from my kindle or work on my crocheting.

Status: offline 		I recently spent a month and a half in an area where I couldn't get internet service and the smartphone was on edge network so worthless for anything serious.

If I wanted to game, I broke out games that didn't require internet connectivity... Oblivion and Dragon Age.
I drove to a Panera Bread on my day off to check email and do online banking.

in my considerations to where to move to next (which country, what area within).. internet is a must have.. I will have my business online with internet/on line cameras for security and also to check on my minions work, scans, pics, emails to them & back to me, Skype, etc.. that it would be deal breaker if internet was nonexistent or too dam slow.. it would be also the same for people that have nanny/pet cams to keep an eye on what is going on at home while they are at work.. Its a wired world.. no going back now..

and too, guess I have not totally given up on possibly finding my twue love online..

Status: offline 		Since my daughter is in Seattle, my brother is in New Orleans, and my dad is in North Carolina, I need a connection to keep in touch with them. Busy unpredictable schedules make phone calls to any of them difficult if not impossible. My computer's primary non-internet purpose is for playing Quake so I can brutalize CG monsters instead of the shortsighted jackasses who won't hire me. But that's another rant for another day.

I got a computer (same specs....1985 or something), guy at SEARS "Business Center" explained to me how things worked, worked his magic fingers....I thought "well....that's the fucking shit....I need one of those things!!! Database, word processing, (excel like) thing.....this is the fucking SHIT!!!!"

It was so easy....I bought the gawdamned thing...went home (with software....6 grand)....couldn't fucking figure out what the guy did (it was sooooo easy!!!).....6 months later I went out to my garage (having made the $212.00 a month "27 easy month payments" for several months) and I (finally) decided....."fuck this shit....I can do this"....and proceeded to spend the next 4 weekends determined.....to figure this shit out.

And I did....and in those 4 weekends....I could write a damned letter.

I only found out years later that I could actually, also write a database.

I bought the premium gig.....two drives....one for the software....the other for the stuff (8 inch green screen).

Three years later I bought a BIG TIME computer.....20 MEGABYTE hard drive.....4 thousand bucks,

We were in the big time.

Light years ahead of competitors.

Status: offline 		WIthout the interwebs I wouldbe climbing the walls, most of my friends are on it. family over in the UK, etc etc, my business is online, I talk to my pet online a LOT. so I would be screwed Net wise.
As for just having my computer, I would be fine, I have lots of work I can do without needing to be connected(for a while)
Graphics software, books, on a kajillion subjects, database software cart software, movies, music, tv shows, programming languages to learn, software to learn, Id probably finish my book, rebuild computers,
I spend most of my day on the computer, work and fun.... Iwouldnt want to live without it, but I have various non computer things I can do , if we were without power.

I'd turn to my smart phone.

I use my computer for music, but other than that, I use it for online. How else can a girl shop, after all, haha. But seriously, that's how I research stuff. The Mister doesn't call me Data Girl for nothin! I used it for our house search, for comparing TVs to buy, for booking appointments, for just about everything. For me it's not a matter of enjoyment but usefulness.

Status: offline 		Prior to the internet I took out 10 books a week from the library.
Today, I probably read more than that but I don't have to carry them up the hill. Thank God for my kindle!

I still can't do a lot of stuff that the rest of you do. I'm at the far end of the DSL. Another couple hundred feet and I'd still be on dial up.
Cable wants a couple thousand dollars to run the line here and won't let us run it ourselves.

It's at least five years till we get FIOS. And that's an optimistic estimate.

They haven't taught cursive for years now. Most kids don't even know what that is or know how to read it. It's gone the way of Latin.

Status: offline 		Mister Man is currently in the hospital. We stay in touch via Skype every night. Instead of going to the public library I now take out e-books. I do a lot more reading that way. I also get free e-books every day through e-mail. I have about 2,000 stored, that should keep me busy for about 2 months or so. If that.

I do a lot of comparison shopping, it's now my go-to for written map directions. I still get lost, but that's another story! I visit different websites for the hell of it.

Between 2 of us we now own a laptop, a tablet, a surface and a smart TV.

No Internet? Hush yo' mouth!!

Heheheh! So true. The internet is amazing, and like anything in life, can be well- or ill-used. I'd have a hard time going back to pre-internet days. But if I were living in the stone age, smoke signals or whistles in the forest were probably considered amazing then too.

Our county library just added Zinio, so now we have digital access to endless magazines as well. It just keeps getting better. Public libraries: the only 100% MDA-approved use of my tax dollar!

True - I do have an internet blog about my garden; but if the online connection did not exist I grew up in a time when the home computer didn't exist. I could adapt all over again. Not a problem.

Status: offline 		It might take me a couple days to realize there was no internet.
I love to read, I cook, I sew a bit, I see friends for lunch and spend most nights with my primary, I clean and do laundry (and neither are exactly fun but they do make me feel productive, which make me feel better about reading so goddamned much). Research papers would be more difficult, but I feel at home in libraries. Most of my time on the computer is spent writing short stories or working on a novel, and I intentionally disconnect from the internet to stay focused.

I would miss internet chess...and looking up recipes...and funny cat memes...but that's about it.

Hoooooooooh YAAAAAAA!! Another audio maven! I forgot how much time I spend in Pro Tools and an old version of Cool Edit. I create e-stim files this way and the time just FLIES! It's also great to take yoga nidras and insert silence when the narrator keeps telling me to say to myself: I am awake. I am practicing yoga nidra. So disruptive when I'm deep in the meditation, so I just edit it out. I also use it to create longer silences when I'm supposed to repeat something several times to myself, breathe/count or want more time in a segment before the next begins.

Audacity and Cool Edit are free, folks. Enjoy!
