DomKen -> NC Republican offical reveals himself (10/24/2013 4:50:50 PM)

http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-october-23-2013/suppressing-the-vote

I missed this last night.

Turns out he resigned from his party positions as soon as people actually saw this interview.

Nosathro -> RE: NC Republican offical reveals himself (10/25/2013 8:00:03 AM)

I saw it, this is what the GOP is all about.

joether -> RE: NC Republican offical reveals himself (10/26/2013 3:58:07 AM)

I saw that and my mouth dropped open in laughter. Yeah, millions of dollars spent to create cumbersome anti voter fraud protections because only one or two people....MIGHT....vote incorrectly out of a voting population measured in the tens if not hundreds of thousands. We had a few threads about this time last year about Voter ID laws. Not one conservative then, could give one solid piece of non-bias, well vetted evidence to show that voter fraud was even on the same scale they were raging was taking place. Yes the real facts were only 2068 questionable votes were found in a 12 year period from 2000 to 2012. The vote in 2012 for President was 126,226,713 votes. They tried to have us believe that 304 questionable votes decided on whether Romney would be elected....INSTEAD.....of the nearly five million non-questioned votes. The previous votes were likely in the same range. This includes mid-term elections. All these questionable votes did not take place in the same county or state. Not even the mega, grand majority took place in the same county/state.

'Voter Suppression' was the game plan of the GOP/TP in 2012, and it largely failed. Again, not one conservative on this forum or nation wide complained about the waste of tax dollars. Because when Republicans spend money on stupid crap its 'money well spent'. When Democrats do it, its always 'a huge waste of taxpayer dollars'.

An the guy admits what everyone knows: Republicans are the party you join when your a racist. An if you hate most Americans because they are non-white, you join the Tea Party.

I've got two questions:
1) really... did he know people could actually hear him? or that he would be aired on TV?
2) have you ever considered the necessity of a proper ID document, not just for voting but mostly to make identity theft more difficoult?

That's right, there isn't enough fraud to even worry about. Best to wait until someone on the left loses, then we can spend months recounting every slip.

Maybe someone should show the dems how to spend money wisely then.

That makes no sense. Someone who hate most americans because they are non-white is a racist. Kinda like someone who hates 1/2 the country because they belong to one side or the other is a bigot.

1) really... did he know people could actually hear him? or that he would be aired on TV?

He was being interviewed by a "reporter" who clearly identified himself and he did the interview in front of a camera. He has not disputed anything about the interview as shown. His only complaint so far has been that the Republican Party officials who fired him were "gutless."

We have lots of identity documents. The Republicans are picking and choosing which ones will be allowed to be shown at a polling place to allow one to vote. And they're doing the picking based on which ones Democratic groups are least likely to have, for instance in all these states college ID's (even ones issued by state run universities) do not count but firearms permits do.

This is just a curiosity of mine, but how does it work vote there, you hale like to resgister before? how someone knows what polling station he has to go? What does people at the polling station ask you to know who in the list voted I mean if there are two john smith they also ask date of birth?

You register to vote before hand in most states. The registration includes your mailing address so that distinguishes you from anyone else with your same name. Different states have different requirements for identification at the polls. Here in Chicago I just present myself, sign the book and sometimes present my voter ID card.

He was a county precinct chair. He was forced to resign by the GOP, he was fired. This is an approach Obama should learn when dealing with his well documented and legendary staff incompetence.

You know that, in the election that I'm guessing sprang into your mind when you were prompted to say this, that if EVERY slip had been recounted in Florida, there would have been no Shrub...

Doncha?

Arturas -> RE: NC Republican offical reveals himself (10/26/2013 1:14:26 PM)

Why would anyone specifically pick an incompetent GOP county precinct chair to interview on their comedy show?

Why would anyone waste our time discussing a local precinct chair when the head of Obamacare rollout is saying stupid things like, "in a perfect world we would have had enough time to test this properly" as if somehow because the world is imperfect this did not go very well, having nothing to do with her and her staff's competence.
Incredible.

so there is no pubblic record of addresses I guess, you trust a lot, with your system here there would be probably a 120% vote affluence, we have an ID card issued at 15 years by the mayor of your city and a voter ID that you recieve at home when you turn 18, you get a stamp for every time you go to vote, when there is no more room you ask a new one at the city hall, I don't know if you get some gadget for finishing the collection... I don't know like a home movie of a party at silvio berlusconi's mansion.

Before every election a new voter card is mailed to you at your address with return postage paid. If the card is returned you are removed from the rolls. If you register at a new address you are also supposed to be removed from the roll at your old address.

I'm of two minds over this. While I'll admit that at first glace saying a firearms ID is acceptable, but student ID isn't, appears discriminatory, they're not really even close to the same thing. I don't know what procedures a school uses to confirm that you're who you say you are, I suspect that at most they ask to see your drivers license. (Which if you have makes this a moot point.) I do know that when you apply for a firearms ID card/carry permit, you have to PROVE that you're who you say you are. IIRC, NJ and PA both require you to submit finger prints. So I have no problem with any form of ID, as long as the process of getting it is thorough at confirming your identity is as a state driver's license.

Might be true. There were 9 recounts. Bush won all of them. Miami-Herald did a post fact which suggested that had Gore *asked* for a recount of the state he might have won.

But he didn't.

Gore had a free recount. He chose to "spend" it in heavily democratic areas, in the belief that these areas would turn up enough votes to elect him.

They didn't. So he had a second bite at the apple. Same result.

It was only way late in the game he offered up a hail mary and said -count the whole vote. Unfortunately by that time the safe harbor provisions kicked in, and the Secretary certified the winner as it existed.

Finally, there is no actual way to know who would have won, had a full recount been done. The inspection of ballots was done with observers fro both sides challenging votes - a level of scrutiny that never equaled. This is not the same as the level of scrutiny the Miami Herald applied. So there is no way to know.

But, one think I'll say about Obama. He makes Bush look good.

This means that if you are not able to drive you can't vote? I mean you litteraly have to pass an exam to vote, isn't against your costitution? Silly question but what kind of document do you have to show when taking the driving licence?

EdBowie -> RE: NC Republican offical reveals himself (10/26/2013 6:36:29 PM)

You prove who you are to get your voter registration card, which identifies you as the unique John Smith, and after you vote, your name is crossed out at that precinct until the next election.

It would require significant effort for one individual to vote twice, or to steal another person's vote. The opportunity for the biggest fraud lies with the election officials.

Why do you keep making up ridiculous lies like this, and the one about passing a test before voting?
Putting them in the form of a question doesn't make them true.

No, eulero, there is a State-issued ID card. It is the State ID for people who do not drive. You are not allowed to hold both a Driver's License and a State ID card, at least not in Ohio. The identity requirements for a State ID are the same as they for a Driver's License.

To get a Driver's License, you have to show your birth certificate, social security card (if you have one), proof of legal presence (if you're not an American Citizen), and proof of State residence.
