I'm fine with the old gun control law in Chicago. This idea that helpless people were being gunned down every day just wasn't true. We had drug gangs shooting at each other but that was about it.

2 children shot while playing football
A gang shooting, a stray bullet, an innocent victim
Shot Fired At School Bus With Kids Onboard
Gunfire wounds two children at play
Teen Among At Least 7 Killed, 35 Wounded By Weekend Gun Violence
Friends, Family Say Goodbye To Innocent Teen Killed By Gang Gunfire
Woman killed in North Chicago was innocent victim of gang violence
Chicago shooting victim becomes 15th homicide of 2013

K.

That can't happen! They have gun control there!

Aw crap, I just broke my own sarcasm meter. Well, when I say "broke" I mean that it just exploded; the cat is hiding and the neighbors dog is setting up a fearful holler.

I don't even walk in certain parts of Chi-town and I'm a lunatic. Next to Cambden, NJ it's the scariest city I've ever been in.

Scariest city I've been to was DC
Of course I would terrorize the locals by saying good morning.

That's funny! When i moved to Kentucky from Chicago, i would have random people wave as they drove by in the opposite direction on a two lane highway. Random strangers saying hi. It took me a while to get used to it. And now I do it.

When I would say hello good morning or what ever to anyone on the streets of D C in the 70's they would be clearly rattled.
When my son went there on his Senior trip he did it and they would cross the street to get away from him.

Home defense? Suburban home, city apartment or a ranch out in the country? I believe different ballistics are favored in each environment. Where the shotgun is appropriate, I would prefer a tactical shotgun like the Mossberg 590 or Remington 870 over the double barreled couch gun.

As far as the OP goes, I have a lot of favorites . . . each shine at their specific application like target, hunting, pin shooting, skeet, personal defense, tactical assault and my all time time fav, the post apocalyptic survival combinations.

I also have a New England arms riot gun. True the pump riot gun is from any objective basis superior to the coach gun but I still like the coach gun.

My Zombie Apocalypse gun is a Mossberg 500, also my home defender. It took a while to find all the stuff I wanted on it. I still haven't found the over sized safety for it yet, but that is the only thing left to do. The low recoil ammo is really sweet.

If it's truly meant as a "zombie apocalypse" gun, you really ought to add some type of iron-sight setup to the gun, and some slugs to the kit. Batteries aren't dependable in all conditions for indeterminate amounts of time, and slugs let you stop some things that buck simply won't. Like zombie black bears or zombie elephants. Or those assholes in the pickup that keep driving past instead of picking you up.

I know Cali is a bit odd, but why is the Judge illegal there? I'm just curious, what makes it illegal? Other then someone in the Cali govt waving a wand and saying it's so that is.

Well, to avoid stepping on the guidance from Gamma, the Wikipedia entry on the gun will have that answer for you.

Found it, thanks much. Seems an odd bit of reasoning, but understandable considering the source.

That's what I thought it was, makes me want one.

I've thought about getting one a few times. There's just something about being able to throw 3 .36(ish) cal balls down range with each trigger pull that is appealing. But every review I've read says that the Judge is rather mediocre. Not a great shotgun. Not a great .45LC pistol. Plus it's a bit big for a carry pistol. It would probably just sit in my lock box till I took it to the range.

Yep that's why I don't have one either.
I have seen special .410 loads for it that fling several discs instead of the pellets.
Still I would prefer one of the peacemaker clones.
They are single action but how fast do you have to shoot with a .45?

Hey RS, I'm curious, what do you think if that side fore-grip? I've used a Remington 870 and a Mossberg 500, but only with a bottom fore-grip, and more often just the standard pump. It seems like holding it sideways like that would be awkward?

All I've got at the moment are automatics. A few Sigs and a Springfield TRP Operator that I bought when I had too much money in my pocket. ;) Oh and a Ruger 10/22, but everyone should have one of those.

Yes I think it is the best popularly price .22 automatic there is.

I currently carry a Taurus .45 automatic, but I trust revolvers more.

It still has the bead. The sights are on rails and come off easily. The thought of Zombie bears and elephants is rather humbling isn't it? In the bandoleers I have some slugs.

You hold it straight up and shoot from the hip like a Sten submachine gun.

For a survival weapon, I wanted it to be flexible so it shoots well from the shoulder or the hip. This gun was meant to be my "go to" gun. It has to be able to hold it's own in a riot. Hence the 141 rounds on board. Now, if you have ever fired over hundred of rounds of shoulder wracking / hand numbing buckshot ammo through a shotgun before, you know it gets rough after a while. It is easy to mis-rack the gun and your shoulder will get sore eventually. That's why I wanted it to shoot comfortably and accurately from the hip or the shoulder, hence the side grip.

I used the spring loaded shock absorbing Blackhawk stock with pistol grip and Phoenix Tech forend with 3 sets of rails. On the bottom rail I have the Magpul AFH2 for secure racking assist while shooting from the shoulder. It really helps prevent a mis-rack. On the side rail I have the foldable side grip for holding the gun low and shooting from the hip, the same way you would hold the Mossberg Chainsaw version pictured below. I have the laser sight for shooting accurately from the hip and the holographic reflex quick sight for shooting from the shoulder. I chose a shotgun because it puts more lead on target per minute than an SMG. I chose the Mossberg because it is the only shotgun to pass the US Army's Mil-Spec 3443E test, 3,000 rounds of full power 12 gauge buckshot without jamming.

TC Contender hand-engraved with maplewood stock and accents of sterling silver modified to fire an 1998 elephant gun round.
