jlf1961 -> I need help with decorating stuff... (10/2/2013 4:54:59 PM)

I have made the first purchase of new bedroom furniture in 10 years. I purchased a new bed.

This will mean some minor decor changes to my room, but that is insignificant.

However, after hitting the Army surplus store and discovering much to my chagrin that they do not carry queen size bedding stuff, I am at a loss to find the proper linens for the new bed.

I am looking for a bed spread or comforter with the Ranger emblem or shoulder blaze, one with jump wings, or something similar in nature.

I am seriously considering painting my room barracks gray as a protest to the forced change of my sleeping gear.

Do you mean Army Ranger?

If so, these might help:

Thanks, but now, you have opened new avenues of expression. Considering I am a closet nerd/geek...

I wonder how hard it would be to replace the sheet rock with metal plate, and the doors with airlocks.......

You wouldn't replace the sheet rock with metal plate. You'd want to mount the metal plate right to the sheet rock. That way you have somewhat of a fire break/sound insulator there as well. As for how simple, it depends on whether you like that riveted boat hull look. If you don't mind seeing the fasteners, it's easy. Just make sure you space them evenly, and put screws in even if you don't necessarily need them, to keep the regimented look. Depending on the gauge you want to install, it will start to add up in cost pretty quickly. If installing it yourself, and you don't have a metal break, make sure you work out your sizes first and have the supplier cut the sheets to the right size.

Air locks are a different matter. They take up too much room for a normal house. If you're just talking having a second door (like a sound stage airlock, which isn't air tight at all), it's a fairly simple thing to install conceptually. You'd just have to create a hallway leading to the room in question, and have a door at both ends. If you actually want an air lock (with the air portion of that being functional), I'd imagine it's more complicated. I know nothing about ventilation systems though, so you're on your own.

I'd imagine an air lock wouldn't work so well with all the dogs and your great nephew going in and out of your room though.........

A friend of mine who knows my love of antiques (what do you expect, I am an antique) suggested something along the lines of steam punk. Considering the wooden keyboards available for computers and other unique accessories, it looks interesting. Personally, I think I need the inter dimensional field found inside the tardis.

there are laminates (formica) that look just like diamond metal plate and come in 4x8 sheets. you could apply them just like paneling.....as for the airlocks.....you're on your own with that.

Airlocks? No problem! Might be a titch hard to off a Cylon, but you should be able to make a nice homebrew. [:D]

ok so you are the victim

getting serious I don't know how the climate is in texas but if you have to heat or refrigerate I'd advise you against having a surface with a low thermal inertia covering the inside of a bed room or living room because it will be unconfortable and will feel frigid, if it's meant to be an office then it's ok but my advice is to have one side covered with one layer of insulating material, better not sintetic as it's just ment to increase the inertia so cork is the best wood can be also good, if you can have the panels cut and with the holes in the right spots done it should not take so much, the hardest part will be demolition. One problem could be finding screws that can look victorian age or instead of steempunk it will look more science fiction style.

if pressure in both of the room is equal also a could be functional one is just a second door so...

Art stores are your friend.

Actually, all kidding aside, I really do want to make some changes to this room.

I have already decided to replace the particle board that comprises the "wood" parts of my desk with hardwood, re using the metal frame.

There are two closets in the room (i have no idea why) one a walk in and one just a walled space with a door. I am thinking of removing the door and closet wall and putting my desk in the space, getting a larger monitor/tv combo so that I can dump a tv stand that is taking up space.
