Sirens have been wailing all evening, and even those of us far from the Navy Yard have been stunned.

I keep thinking of a moment in the film Eleanor and Franklin.
The Roosevelts are alone, and Mrs. R. tells the President
about a hate-filled letter she received that day.
FDR responds with words that have been in my head and heart all this long day:

What a world.

My thoughts and prayers and warmest sympathies are with all my neighbors tonight.

I needed to hear this tonight and thought others might too.

I work in DC and the Navy yard is about 10 or so blocks from my office but no one ever notified our office or made us lock down. I didn't know anything about it until Master texted and told me about it while we were both at work. People in DC just seemed to be going about their daily work with not a second thought to it unless you were someone directly at the building.

This thing about locking down the fed buildings nearby? Apparently someone forgot to tell us.

Holy shit, another mass shooting?!

Interesting. I work over in Woodley Park, and the shooting seemed to be the only thing on folks' minds.

Glad to hear you're okay.

Yeah it was weird. Master texted me in the morning and told me and then I went outside for lunch around noon and no one seemed to be saying much at all.
