Rich33Rich -> Talk to me about profile pictures. (9/12/2013 1:00:38 PM)

I work in finance and I'm pretty high profile within the fairly small community of traders and analysts in Manhattan so I'm loath to use a face shot for a profile picture. What are some other kinds of profile pictures that are effective? I'm certainly not new to networking sites, but I'm pretty new to sites on which discretion is a key concern.

Gauge -> RE: Talk to me about profile pictures. (9/12/2013 1:08:22 PM)

There is no specific requirement that you must have a profile picture. However, if you feel you want one, half clothed body shots with the head cropped out are not uncommon. Don't post penis pictures or other such nonsense because the ladies here will tell you that they really could care less to see such a photo as an introduction. Just remember, at some point in time you will be asked for a picture because if there is no attraction then what the hell is the point of trying to cultivate a potential relationship online.

A word of warning however, you have now told people that you are high profile and someone could potentially take advantage of that fact.

LadyPact -> RE: Talk to me about profile pictures. (9/12/2013 1:28:51 PM)

I'm actually going to advise you against the half clothed shot with the head cut off. Please see this thread http://www.collarchat.com/m_4539256/tm.htm for the explanation on that.

There are plenty of ways to be creative with a profile pic without showing your face. Have a photograph taken doing something you enjoy while you are facing away from the camera. Obscure your face by hiding it behind a tourist sign at a park that you like to go to. Pose so that your arm hides your face while throwing a pitch that was taken during playing baseball or while punching a heavy bag. Have a picture taken from a significant distance while you are rock climbing.

Those are all actual examples of members here who were memorable, even though their profile pic didn't show their face. Right now on My "Who's Viewing" page, I've got five dudes who have the shirtless photo with the head cut off. (At the writing of the thread I linked, I had eight.) A month from now, I'll have another set that just blur into the background because they don't stand out. You want your profile pic to catch attention. Not just look like everybody else.

I said it is not uncommon, not necessarily desirable. [;)]

What about a series of shots with just your eyes like Wilson from Home Improvement?

They were quite creative about not showing his face.

Hi Gauge. How's your day going? [:)]

Just for a conversation piece, "not uncommon" might not be the way to go around here. Guys don't exactly have the numbers on their side, so they do better if they stand out. Looking like so many other members doesn't make an impression.

I've been here six and a half years. I couldn't tell you anything about the five shirtless guys that have perved My profile in the last twelve hours. I can tell you the stats about the guy who used the pic of himself with a dolphin that was taken while he had been on vacation and that showed up on My "Who's Viewing" list over six months ago.

lizi -> RE: Talk to me about profile pictures. (9/12/2013 1:47:34 PM)

I really don't like the torso pictures, they're a dime a dozen and have therefore lost any meaning at all. How about if you had a bright light behind you so you were more of an outline? Your distinguishing features would be in the dark, but we could still see your general shape. Or wear a hat and turn your head. In general I'd say you can't go wrong if you have clothing on. A shot of you from the back in a natural setting like an activity or sport that you do?

slavekate80 -> RE: Talk to me about profile pictures. (9/12/2013 3:02:34 PM)

Action photos from the back, or maybe side with your face turned away towards something else, are good. Making it obvious that you're obscuring your face, by cropping it out or editing it out with a solid color square makes it look like you're hiding what you look like. And even though that's true, and it's for a good reason, it's not a positive association to be made with your picture. In my opinion, a natural-looking photo that just happens not to include a clear view of your face is better.

Rich33Rich -> RE: Talk to me about profile pictures. (9/12/2013 5:36:07 PM)

Thanks for all the input so far, ladies and gents.

I thought about just posting a picture of my condo living room, or of my car, but that seemed super tacky. So hearing your perspectives has been valuable.

I say this every time. By FAR the best response I've ever seen from from the female subs to a male profile picture was a guy dressed "business casual" standing in a tidy kitchen looking like he belonged there. You could do that if you know your way around the kitchen... just blur out the face or adjust camera angle accordingly.

dcnovice -> RE: Talk to me about profile pictures. (9/12/2013 6:17:04 PM)

FR

Definitely no dirty laundry or toilet in the background. [:)]

Winterapple -> RE: Talk to me about profile pictures. (9/12/2013 6:52:25 PM)

Please don't put a photo of your car on your profile unless you're
here to talk cars with guys. Car and condo shots would appeal to
a woman looking for a sugar daddy, I suppose. Personally, I'd find
it a turn off. Show the boy not the toys.

If you're in finance I imagine you wear a suit everyday. For a lot of
women a man in a tailored suit is an incredible turn on. So, I
say go with that. No need to show your face. If you're in good shape
I don't see anything wrong with including a bare torso shot in
with the dressed pics. But, hey I'm shallow like that.

My day was good, thank you.

I have thought long and hard about this topic throughout my day and I have come to a decision. You are right, pictures need to stand out and separate the ordinary twaddle from the extraordinary guys. I therefore have hired a photographer to do a photo shoot of me, smeared in Jello, wearing a pink bunny suit and a smoking jacket and I will set my head on fire. If that doesn't fucking rake in the SLAVE SUB BITCHES, I do not know what will.

Good instincts....expensive cars, furniture - who cares. Or even the gigantic fish that you once caught on vacation (MORE COMMON THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE). [:D]

An action shot of you with face turned away showing you doing something interesting and that you are a human being not focused on sex or status stuff alone is always a good choice, imo. In addition to your words, your picture can make you approachable and interesting, and give someone out there a reason to find some commonality with you.

Ha! [:D]

I've gone the "Wilson" route. People who know me well might be able to pick me out, maybe not. So far no one's brought it up. Although I suppose that if they did, our conversations might become more interesting than they have been...

seekingOwnertoo -> RE: Talk to me about profile pictures. (9/13/2013 3:23:14 PM)

Honestly ... I don't even post pictures.

Just read profiles AND IF a Lady appears to have a well thought out profile (indicates substance) and I like it, THEN I attach pics to my email of introduction.

The added benefit, I have control over WHO I am talking with.

Hope this helps.
