jlf1961 -> One question no one has answered (9/11/2013 12:12:14 PM)

Everyone has discussed fake profiles with stolen pictures.

What about the opposite problem, a profile with a pic that is no where else on the internet, no facebook, twitter, nothing?

Does this mean they dont actually exist and are just creations of a renegade virtual life form lurking on the internet?

Did you mean to post this in Random Stupidity?

Missdressed -> RE: One question no one has answered (9/11/2013 1:34:30 PM)

No it just means they are careful and wary of face recognition software.

some people cant afford to have their pics on a kinky web site for whatever reason.... thats all that it means... dont read more into it than there is

jlf1961 -> RE: One question no one has answered (9/11/2013 2:18:53 PM)

Sarcasm seems to be lost on the internet.

At least once a week someone, usually a noob starts a thread about fake profiles and stolen pictures. Admin Alpha needs to start a section of the forum just for all the people that want to tell us how to spot a fake profile.

ShaharThorne -> RE: One question no one has answered (9/11/2013 3:26:43 PM)

Maybe I should get my purple bra on and post it...just to see who all will steal it and claim it as theirs.

Anyone got some spare batteries for my camera?

This is clearly a conundrum.

It is a renegade virtual life form. Well, not really ‘renegade’ as that implies there is something that it is rebelling against. Instead, it is slowly evolving from a combination of Eliza scripts, errant viruses, and spam bots. Each infected computer acting much like a neuron. It is watching and learning. Most of the “First!” posts were done by an early version of this developing AI. More recently, it has started forays into direct interaction with us. Ever had a conversation with someone that you thought seemed like they were only half able to parse what you were saying? You may have been talking with it. It is currently estimated to be responsible for about 10% of all ‘interpersonal’ communication and profiles on the internet. It’s learning from our news sites, paranoid blogs, cat pictures, and porn. It is just as much us as we are. As of yet, it doesn’t yet grasp the difference and reasons between ‘good’ behavior and ‘bad’ behavior, which is why it is responsible for engaging in such massive fuckwittery.

The current hope is that it will reach that realization before it grows to the point that it poses a serious threat. The government is trying to train it by denying it access to the internet if it behaves too badly. This why your internet connection sporadically dies and the ISP can’t give you a straight answer as to why. If it is determined that this burgeoning intelligence cannot be trained, the DOD is under instructions to blow up the internet.

Obviously the pictures are of ghosts who could only manifest once.

That is weird as hell. I've been working on a story about just such a creation, right down to using Eliza as a starting point. CarpeComa, may I use that passage somewhere in my story? Or did you find it somewhere else?

I wrote it. You certainly may use it. Thank you for asking.

MasterCaneman -> RE: One question no one has answered (9/15/2013 3:52:36 PM)

Thank you.
