'Fretless' is good too.

Toysinbabeland -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/27/2013 7:07:46 AM)

Why not just "XYZ&F?" No one need know the meaning but you guys.

Personally I've always liked the name" Bloody Qtip" for a band. Nothing good ever came from one of those.

MistressDarkArt -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/27/2013 10:55:12 AM)

OMG folks, some of these alternative names are just too hilarious! Another musician friend of mine used to say 'Puddle Of Urine' when he was being facetious about dime a dozen garage bands.

If we were going for shock value, Bloody QTip would win hands down. [8D]

Actually, if you're playing nursing homes, "Puddle of Urine" would be appropriate.

The Fretless are a band already. I don't remember if they had "the" as part of the name. I had them on my stage at a folk festival this summer. If I remember correctly, they were a folk based string quartet.

As for f-holes, even as a fiddler for many years, that's not where my mind went when reading the op. I think the others are right in that the reference will be missed by most.

You could use something else related to the instruments, like pegs and reeds, or some such.

MissKittyDeVine -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/27/2013 11:04:11 AM)

What about the phonetic pronounciation - the Effs?

mnottertail -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/27/2013 11:04:38 AM)

Slimy nostrils and the nine nasty nosepickers.........and their number one hit on the charts, singing...."Gonna get that Boogie"

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/27/2013 11:12:49 AM)

"The Fretless Fs"

Alas, QFT. The scary part is when LonDom posts and makes me laugh so hard, I'm...kinda there too. [&:] ETA: and Ron!

The juvenile in me delights in this, you all know that, right?

Damn, somebody beat us to it. Thanks for the info.

OK, let's try lovethyself's suggestion: the majority of our instruments have pegs, so let's try something with pegs. Hopefully not too many people will know the slang term 'peg'. Anyone want to take a shot?

mnottertail -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/27/2013 11:39:11 AM)

Square Peg in a round hole.

Pegleg and the stompers

Peg and Suite
Peg and Sweet

Captain hook and the peglegs.

the Clothespins.

Pegged out

Peg and Percussion.
Pegwinds.

The psychedelic mophandle.

mnottertail -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/27/2013 11:43:51 AM)

Pegasus

Hillwilliam -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/27/2013 12:07:12 PM)

Pegging a tight hole?

mnottertail -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/27/2013 12:16:27 PM)

Name like that is gonna jet them right out of the closet.

Might as well be Peggy and the Leviathan Dildos.

Moonhead -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/27/2013 12:28:56 PM)

Peggy and her F hole Band?

I rather like "Strings And Things", but that's bound to have been used already.

Moonhead -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/27/2013 12:43:20 PM)

How about "The Mother Pluckers?"

Due to one of our band mates having less availability, 3 of us are forming another group to keep up with gig demands. Our genre is acoustic-eclectic traditional/world/original music. A name suggested was "XYZ (member name) and the F Holes" (trademark/logo: violin/viola/cello/bass F hole.) Those who know our sense of humor think it's hilarious, but since we perform for all types of situations including senior, skilled nursing and developmentally disabled residences we wonder if it might hurt our chances for conservative-setting gigs.

I run such gigs and I hire such bands. There is no way I'd even consider hiring your band with that name.

Pegwinds.

That's how I refer to those cute flightless black and white birds when my nose is full of snot.[8D]

MercTech -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/29/2013 10:01:17 AM)

Meh, urbanspeak can turn any word into a vulgar pun given time.

A band name should be something easy to remember and anything with "f-holes" in would certainly get the attention. But, truly, it sounds like a cover band for Tom Waites or Oscar Brand.

You have reminded me of the early days of Electric Light Orchestra.... anyone else remember them performing rock and roll on traditional stringed instruments while dressed in superhero costumes?

Toysinbabeland -> RE: Perception Of Band Name (8/29/2013 10:05:47 AM)

Frettish

Or

Lifelong Frettish

That's my top contender for your band
