FR
This is an insane ruling and I can't believe it will stand.
Someone should inform the judge that there are people
who are waiting on a Messiah to come that they don't
believe will be Jesus. And that before Jesus was born,
during his lifetime and since his death others have been
called Messiah. I don't find it that shocking of a name.
I've certainly heard worst ones to burden a child with

I remember there was a story a few years ago about parents
in I believe New Jersey who had named their child Adolph
Hitler. They were neo nazis and were in the tabloids. The child
and another child were I think taken out of the home by the
state. I don't know if they were ever returned to their parents
and the removal had to do with issues other than the naming
of the unfortunate baby.

So, between Hitler and Messiah, I'm going to go with Messiah.
Maybe some of these parents naming their kids Messiah are just
tremendous fans of Handel. Maybe Handel is their last name and
they couldn't resist.

The judge is incredibly wrong but I wonder if parents so monumentally stupid as to name a child "Messiah" have any business raising children.

Mexicans name their kids Jesus all the time. Arabs do the same with Mohammed.

I was thinking the same thing. Although "Messiah" does seem rather unique as names go.

It seems that the only reason this ended up in court to begin with was because the parents couldn't agree on the boy's last name. That's not a good sign, if the parents have to go to court because they can't agree on the child's last name. Wasting the court's time and taxpayer money on such inane bullshit. Why couldn't they just flip a coin or something?

That doesn't excuse what the judge did, but my goodness...

The judge should have left the kid's name alone and given the parents new names instead.

A few months ago someone named their kid Hitler, the judge made them change it and so far it has stood.

1. I guess the kid would be ca,led "Messy" for short right ?

2. Now that someone brought up Hitler, ever notice you don't know anyone with that last name ? What, was he an only child of an only child orphan with no Aunts or Uncles or anything ?

I mean come on. I'm sure there are people with the last name "Ripper" out there ons one of them might be named John. What about the Daumers ? Can you imagine taking your kid to school the first time and beiung intrduced to his new teacher - Mr. Daumer, or Mrs. Ripper ?

So what's up with some of these families, like the Hitlers and tha Stalins ? What, after they left their mark on the world they couldn't get laid ?

So they haven't changed it yet?

I feel sorry for the kid.

For some reason, the Johnny Cash favorite "A Boy Named Sue" is coming to mind, but I guess even that would be better than being "A Boy Named Hitler."

I think the judge made them but I am not sure, it was just one of many issues.

I think you're talking about a case from New Jersey and the court took the guys kids because he beat them. His parental rights were terminated and the kids adopted by others. Presumably the new parents changed the kids names.

Stalin was s nickname means "steel made" his name was Iosif Vissarionovič Džugašvili, I checked in the italian online phone book and there are two pages of Mussolini, about Hitler only one in germany and none in austria but I saw some Hitzler in austria so maybe that surname was changed by law after the war, maybe they are not related I don't know.

Not sure about the U.S., but apparently this is legal in a number of countries.

"...At least a dozen countries around the world have baby naming laws in place to prevent parents from ruining their children's lives when they're only a few seconds old. 'Preposterous!' I hear many of you scream indignantly. 'What right does the government have to regulate how I name my child?'

The sad truth is that some parents have given the powers that be no other choice but to meddle. The NSW Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages has had to refuse names such as Jesus Christ, Ned Kelly, Chief Maximus, Post Master General, the number seven, a blank space, and some poor child's Medicare number..."

parenting.kidspot.com.au/banned-baby-names-what-were-they-thinking/#.Ugl01mFSQrc

and

"...According to the registrar, a name may be rejected if it is thought to 'cause offense to a reasonable person', is 'unreasonably long' or 'resembles an official title or rank'..."

www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/01/banned-baby-names-justice-one-country-says_n_3195897.html

In Italy you can't name a baby with an offensive name or a name that refers to a geographical place, in the case of places there are the exception of Asia, Europa, Italia, and America that were widely used before the law was created.
And this is in line with the legal principle that parents have the duty to "raise their offspring in the best interest of the child" and when parents fail to do this, than they are violating a right of a person that is dependant to them so an higher authority must step in. And being named something that could make the child face possible discriminations in the future just for a whim is not in the interest of the child. Now Messiah could be a grey area about this as it's not offensive to anyone but this doesn't mean they are so wise.

This is presumably the case I was referring to in my post.
The father is a guy named Heath Campbell and he has 8 children
with four different women. His four children by his last wife
were taken out of the home because of accusations of abuse
and neglect. He was in the press in 2009 when a supermarket
refused to write Happy Birthday Adolph Hitler on his son Adolph
Hitler Campbell's birthday cake. The NJ Supreme Court ruling
that refused to give the children back to their parents happened
in 2012. But the courts and family services denied the names
of the children were why they were removed from the home
