ORIGINAL: cloudboy You seem to be speaking at cross purposes here I can see where my comment might confuzzle those of the Alinsky school, or who allow practioners of such to steer their attitudes. Nuance and complexity don't translate well into, "all the angels on one side - all the devils on the other. I think what Manning did was a contemptible crime, and betrayal of his country and his oath. He should be locked away for many years. The established facts of what he did and his motivations for doing so don't qualify him as a leaker or whistleblower to my way of thinking, but just a self-centered attention seeking punk who did a giant data dump of unvetted material, and his punishment should serve as a warning to any who might emulate him. At the same time, I'm greatly troubled by the other revelations of how this administration looks at the press, and the people. Even though Manning's actions probaly did result in aid to the enemy, I've come to a place of believing such a broad interpretation of that charge would not be healthy for a free society. So yes. I'm glad the verdicts came down the way they did, and now he should go spend the rest of life on whatever sort of punitive regime they are running at Leavenworth these days.
