Shipping chocolate can get very expensive in the summer. I don't know how the international shipping works with regards to customs and pricing and whatnot, but I just looked up what it would cost to ship some Sarris chocolate to where I live (Pennsylvania to Texas, a long way but in the same country), and there was a note that said in the summer months Next Day Air shipping might be required to prevent melting. Which, for a $50 chocolate order, would be more than the cost of the candy itself!

So unless there's a problem with a particular type of candy not being admissible into the USA, it can be done - but be prepared to pay a lot for shipping or risk product damage.

Yes, you can send chocolate in US mail.

It is allowed.

We are a free chocolate country.

(Contrary to previous reports).

you can pack meltables in dry ice and maybe they won't melt but the weight an specialty shipping that would cost would run the cost of shipping super high,

Not regarding the Kinder Eggs, there aren't. They specifically remain on the banned list.

There are some loopholes in the federal ban, depending on the size of the toy.

America! Land of the free, home of the brave. But not if you want Kinder Eggs. Oh no, not for you, Americans. They might be dangerous! Just another sign we're turning into a Nanny State. On a side note, I used to send my sister in Utah a box full of sponge candy, which if you're a connoisseur, you know it can only be properly created in the Western New York area, due to its elevation above sea level, relative humidity, and the pact we made with the Devil. Which also presumably included a clause guaranteeing the Bills would never make it to the playoffs ever again, but I digress...

Every year since she moved out west, we sent her a box with no problems. After 9/11, the USPS freaked out and for two years refused to allow us to ship any to her. It wasn't until the '03 Christmas season I could send it out, and only then by packing it up inside the local post office after showing it to the desk clerk what it was. Apparently, under X-ray, sponge candy "looks" like "something else" was all the woman told me.

Ever since then, it's the only way I can send her and my nephew sponge candy. Otherwise, the box is returned to me "Opened and Examined and deemed unsafe for delivery" And for this, I blame both the terrorists and the Bush and Obama administration for continuing this confectionery outrage. When will the madness end??? >end of rant and I descend from my soapbox<

That's correct, one where the toys are packed outside of the chocolate.

the adults giving these eggs to little kids should be responsible enough to either not give their kid the eggs, or supervise better, or let the child watch the adult crack it open and THEN give the chocolate to thekid.

FR

I've discovered that sending things to the US can be extra-tricky since 9/11. Me, I've just had the policy of going into the post office and asking. The clerk always goes away and pulls a huge tome of the shelf.

Why fuss with sending chocolate to the U.S. when Hershey's is widely available?

And yes, that was a joke.

Chocolates with tiny-little toys inside I can understand (a little), but US-made sponge candy? I mean, come on, it's not like I was trying to ship C-4 and detonators. And how is it that the little snowflakes on the other side of the pond have managed to figure out how not to swallow the toys that come inside, yet ours can't seem to grasp this concept?

Kinder Egg importing.....
If you actually brought Kinder Eggs into the country with you I doubt anyone would bat an eye. But sending them through a common carrier kicks in federal law regarding foodstuffs with non food items inside. Gad, they don't even put non food items in the container any more due to fears some dimwit will let their small child swallow it and choke to death. Have you wondered why Cracker Jack no longer has an actual toy inside but some cheesy pasteboard game made too large for a child to swallow? I miss the secret code rings and tiny whistles.

Yes, people care, and if youre caught trying to bring them in with you it's a fine of like 2,500 or something for each egg possibly.

If you actually went to the link, you would have seen that they insert a plastic egg inside the chocolate one to create a safety barrier. This is how it passes the safety ban

Unfortunately, you can send chocolate to the US with no problems.

You cannot however send scotch, saki, or any other decent refreshments.
