I dont. It is a cult. But if you want that for you- I am ok with it. But not for me and my kin.

Not every sub/slave is female... In fact, I believe male subs/slaves outnumber them about 9:1.

What is your sample size, exactly? Do you think it's possible you've been looking at some scammer's copy-pasted profiles that have the keywords (or age/gender) you're looking for?

Having attended a college that had one very eclectic course requirements, such as a history major taking various music and art classes, I have been subjected to opera.. Now granted I enjoy the ring cycle by Wagner, even though I do not understand a word of German.

However, I have noticed that almost every sub/slave profile has a liking for opera listed. Okay one professor says it is because of MTV "young people are conditioned to add a visual component to music" which would be fine, IF MTV WAS SHOWING VIDEOS ALL THE TIME. MTV has gone to the "stupider the better" reality programing system. VH1 is little better.

Besides the music that the younger generation listens to, aka noise, is nothing like opera, and barely recognizable as music. Bring back the styles of the 80's.

So the question becomes, do these women really know what opera is?

Andrew Lloyd Webber really brought popularity back to Opera.

Also Disney musicals.

Apocalypso -> RE: I am beginning to wonder about profiles.. (7/19/2013 4:50:45 AM)

We don't need traditional opera any more anyway. We have rock opera. And Meat Loaf.

MasterCaneman -> RE: I am beginning to wonder about profiles.. (7/19/2013 8:02:16 AM)

Oh no, Meat Loaf again?

sunshinemiss -> RE: I am beginning to wonder about profiles.. (7/19/2013 8:53:04 AM)

Jim Steinman - fricking brilliant

Obviously we can't answer for people you've looked at online, so I'm not sure what you're hoping to get out of this.

Why aren't you asking them? Go to the source.

It was rhetoric actually

Polemic, surely?

evesgrden -> RE: I am beginning to wonder about profiles.. (7/19/2013 5:45:29 PM)

No, that's not rhetoric.

And if you meant rhetorical, what exactly was your point? They can't know what real opera is, they're lying about liking opera? What?

There are a LOT of musical influences in a young person's life besides TV. What did their parents listen to? What was music education like at their grade school and high school? What kind of community do they live in? I would not assume that someone young who lists opera as a like doesn't know much about it. In the city I live in, there are operatic performances outside for free on the square on a regular basis. People of all ages attend. I went to my first opera in elementary school on a class trip and loved it. It's not lost on young ears by any means.

Well, as far as music education, this is Texas after all, the state that makes ultra conservatives look like liberals. The only classical music students are exposed to is if they take orchestra. I recently found out that my old high school has done away with Jazz band, and put a lot more emphasis on marching band, since that accompanies the religion of high school football.

The last time this town saw an opera performance was a few years ago.

Lizard, my daughter, plays keyboards (get her one when she was 6 months old), guitar, bass, viola and violin. Her school got tops in middle school. I tease Bo that she is SRV reincarnated. Both her father and I encouraged her musical talents.

GingerLala -> RE: I am beginning to wonder about profiles.. (7/20/2013 5:42:29 PM)

That's so sad! As was said in Mr. Holland's Opus (and I'm paraphrasing here, as I don't recall the EXACT quote), if we get rid of all the art and music, what will we have to read and write ABOUT?

I still wouldn't assume that they don't actually appreciate opera though. Will all of them have a ton of knowledge about it? Probably not. That doesn't mean that they've never heard it before. Just hearing it once can build appreciation. And maybe it wasn't in Texas. Maybe they visited an aunt in Oregon. Who knows? Point is, give them the benefit of the doubt. And if their knowledge is lacking, maybe help fill it in.
