Huelskamp said he plans to introduce the Federal Marriage Amendment later this week, a measure that would define marriage as between one man and one woman.
fight for it, if you want it so bad, get the bigamy laws banned and fight for it....
oh never mind...

I want a Constitutional amendment making the Pit bull a protected species, and another one outlawing the use of the word irregardless, and one making BDSM gear tax exempt, and finally an amendment outlawing all other kinds of Bar Be Que except texas bar be que, so that beef is the only meat allowed.

They make as much sense as one to ban gay marriage, and have a better chance of making it.

No I did not make it in jest. I seriously believe that we need a Constitutional amendment to settle the marriage brouhaha once and for all (well, as much as anything so contentious can ever truly be settle). I am under no delusions that this will happen anytime soon or happen easily... but I do believe it.

I fail to see, however, how your item E applies to me since I don't want to change the constitution for everything I want... just a few things.

As I said, my proposed amendments make better sense than on banning gay marriage in the US.

Vote everyone out of office and start over,
Starting in the primary don't vote for anyone who has held Federal office and be careful about the rest.

On this one, having lived in Texas the South and uncivilized parts of the country, I swing both ways, I love both BBQ pork and beef.

Item E covers anyone who wants to change the Constitution to cover marriage law either way.

I dare you to go tell that to a pit master in Alabama. It might be wise to do it from outside of arms reach.

No it doesn't. By your own words Item E covers [emphasis mine] "People who want to change the Constitution every time they want something." I want peanut butter ice cream right now... I don't want to change the Constitution to get it. I just want to change the Constitution for a few things. Things concerning stuff like... you know... human rights.

The Constitutional Amendment to ban Gay Marriage on a Federal level will NOT pass. I am almost certain of that. When Republicans did have an overwhelming majority in Congress and the White House a few years ago, they couldn't even get it passed then. Much less now.

Probably not.

But it's a great fund-raising tool for both parties.

We could have a pool to predict how long it will take for the number of GOP gay-marriage-ban-amendment attempts to outstrip the number of Obamacare-repeal efforts.

1/3 of the Senate is up for reelection in 2014. If the Republicans gain 7 seats in the Senate, they regain control. As long as the Democrats can keep control of the Senate, there is absolutely no way a Constitutional Amendment would pass.

There don't appear to be any real surprises in the House, which will probably remain in the GOPs control. In 15 out of the last 17 mid-term elections, the opposition party (to the sitting President) has either gained or retained control of the House of Representatives.

I mention this, because the GOP has already demonstrated their willingness to vote on bills repeatedly until the Senate is willing to vote on them/pass them. Anyone who is paying attention to the current political games being played might be better off to consider anything that happens in The House of Representatives from now until mid-terms to be a "test vote". Knowing full well that Dingy Harry won't even allow a vote on the issue, having the vote in the House now will allow them to guage support they might have in a GOP controlled Senate in 2014.

I submit that if the GOP manages to hold the House and regain the Senate in 2014, there is a very real chance that a ban on gay marriage could become a reality. Since not all of the states who recognize gay marriage do so by choice, an amendment could concievably be ratified by enough states to pass. For instance in California, the ban on gay marriage was voted into law by the majority of the citizens and overturned by the court. If put to a popular vote for a Constitutional Amendment, Californians would probably once again support the ban.
