Cool, bring on Jurassic park :p

More like "The Andromeda Strain"

...and a donkey named Willy...would make a great name for a band. However, I don't see 'Jurassic Park' coming anytime soon, if at all. Although having a pet Velociraptor would seriously impress my friends and neighbors [;)]

Oh no, they're quite free to enter. Would save me some serious coin on the feed bill. As well as provide some quality entertainment for me.

Very interesting story.  Thanks for posting it.

The possibilities it opens up for future exploration
are really intriguing, even if they are limited to the
excellent conditions in the permafrost.

There are ways to keep kids out of the yard that wont bankrupt you in butcher bills, or buying cattle to feed the damn thing... IF the government would make it legal for land owners to put in mine field dead man zones around the perimeter of your property. I mean bouncing bettys really deter people from entering just about any area.

chemeli -> RE: DNA Buried 7,000 Centuries Is Retrieved (6/27/2013 10:40:05 AM)

Wasnt there a discussion though, about the idea of taking ancient mammouth DNA to create a new one in our time? Sometimes, it's all about little steps, you begin with a mammouth and you end up with a T-Rex and recreating the books and the movies altogether....

Spiritedsub2 -> RE: DNA Buried 7,000 Centuries Is Retrieved (6/27/2013 11:18:36 AM)

There was recent discussion about that, and if I'm remembering correctly, about doing the same with saber tooth tiger DNA. I think it's exciting beyond belief. When I was young I had a 6 foot tyranosaur styrofoam skeleton in my room; now that I'm all grown up I want a real one in a pen just like Jurassic Park! I hope I live long enough to see something close.

Wouldn't that make it hard to mow the lawn?

You dont mow the dead man zone... make it a strip of garden planted in wild flowers, ornamental grass and signs in klingon warning bout the land mines.

You'll need the Velociraptors to get rid of the bodies of all the dead Trekkies (or -ers, as you wish) trying to steal those signs.

Missokyst -> RE: DNA Buried 7,000 Centuries Is Retrieved (6/27/2013 10:05:55 PM)

Wow.... it won't be too long before they will find a unicorn. Maybe a bit of genetic manipulation will shut up the people who continally seek them.

On a side note.. isn't that the cutest horsey?[:)]

Thats what the dire wolves will be for. I considered genetically engineered gerbils, but decided that a gerbil large enough to have 8 inch fangs would be too obvious.

Not to mention terrifying to Richard Gere.

Of course the guy that wrote BLoom County did run a series of strips about one of the characters creating a long tailed hamster, you never saw the hamster, but you did see the tail, that required two hands to hold he up, and it dragged the floor from being held up at the waist.
