Except that, quite frankly, maybe it WAS her. If he had truly wanted to maintain contact, he probably was aware that they could speak again soon on the phone or meet up the next day. We don't want to think (or tell our friends) that they may not be as wonderful to others as they are us but the truth of this matter was probably that he didn't want to stay in touch with her. Sounds like a blow-off to me.. At least that's what I'd think if someone did that to me or one of my friends. Harsh but probably true .......luci

Well I find it keeps me out and about. I do not know how many times I went from doing nothing that day to suddenly I am out doing something because a friend posted on facebook and we made plans for the day off of that. My craziness sometimes comes out when I make a post about someone I am sitting in the same room with and we get into a conversation on facebook while we are sitting in the same room. It makes me LOL when people comment how nuts I am to have an online conversation with someone I am sitting in the same room with. Eh it's just fun so I have so say mostly I find it fun and I also use it to save on postage from sending photos of my kids to family, I can just tag them on facebook.

I use FB to keep up with a few free from here and around the world. I subscribe to a few pages (Doctor Who, George Takei, anime sites) and I chat with Bo and Lizard. I do try to call Lizard about every other day on her cell. With FB, she shows me pictures of the puppy that Little Bit gave birth to (a girl named Loki). Thomas's sister post recipes and I copy them to my HD. Then there is the crazies that I keep up with.

Thought I would post a small snippet of my girls paper.

"People have became so enamored with social networking it has consumed so much of their lives, focus, and attention. All the while leaving the outside world running in the background, dismissing physical things around themselves, face-to-face contact, and relationships outside the internet are diminishing. The social networking rave has led to the misconception of relationships. The values of a relationship are being forgotten and neglected. The importance of having face-to-face undivided attention, the need to reach out and touch someone or the comfort of his or her voice is being replaced by a poke, a comment, maybe even an animated online card. Shauntara Greene wrote that according to Ray Williams a writer for Psychology Today stated that human interaction is a necessity and exchanging physical interaction for social network sites may result in unintended consequences. (Greene)."

This is just a single paragraph on this portion and she has several points she is covering. The statistics on lost work, time taken away from maintain a home/family and neglect of other areas is pretty staggering.

I was thinking of writing an opposing view to help her in covering everything and being more persuasive. I remember one class I had where the professor would review our thesis statement before we started writing, and randomly select people and tell them to write the opposing view of what they wanted to.

Just read an article in Time that related a study showing that when Facebook started allowing users to post their organ donation status that organ donor registration went up a huge amount.

As someone on the transplant waiting list this is a very gratifying effect from something, social media, I am otherwise very dubious of.
