searain -> Glass toys and vibrators, airplane travel question (6/13/2013 4:27:41 PM)

Can I take my glass toys and vibrators in my carryon, or do I have to put them in checked luggage? I was thinking that if they're going to open up my bags and look at them anyway, I'd rather be there when they do. But the glass is kinda heavy.

I never had a problem bringing a vibrator in my carryon, but I've never owned glass toys let alone traveled with them.

Ok - thank you :) I'll try googling the glass toy thing. I don't want to have to figure out how to get it to my checked luggage because it's considered a weapon at security.

The TSA reserves the right to search anyone's bag at any time. That being said, here is the official list of prohibited items:

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0CCsQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tsa.gov%2Ftraveler-information%2Fprohibited-items&ei=x1y6UYS8H-i40AG1iIGwDA&usg=AFQjCNELp0B1uxwMcMiK_qjiU97x22yvMA&sig2=rQH0LtGIzR-YYceyscm1ww&bvm=bv.47883778,d.dmQ&cad=rjt

As to what they might or might not classify a glass dildo as (can be used as a weapon, as it is a solid piece of hardware), you would be taking your chances there. Personally, I would play safe and check it.

According to the TSA, “tools” less than 7 inches in length are allowed in carry-on luggage. However, if the item is “club-like” or can be mistaken as a weapon, don’t pack it in a carry-on. Try to imagine your dildo or butt plug under the security scanner — will it look sinister somehow?

Since even belt buckles set off the metal detectors at security, there’s no way a metal dildo or butt plug will get through unnoticed in a carry-on. Same goes for strap-on harnesses with metal buckles, rings, or fixtures. Consider packing a fabric harness instead, and put your metal toys in your checked luggage.

As with any fragile item, pack a glass or ceramic dildo by wrapping it up thoroughly in soft cloth.

Thanks everybody - I'll just wrap them up well and put them in checked luggage. :)

Maybe put a sign on them that says glass dildo or something. I heard someone once say something along the line that it might be handled more discretely or something that way.

labeling may help, but ultimately it comes down to whether or not the agent deems the object in question a threat. As I said, glass dildos, while a sex toy, are still pretty substantial (heavy, solid, and blunt). Same with any large solid silicone toys, anything they can even suspect can be used as a weapon runs the risk of being confiscated. And they will even pull them out of checked luggage, so take at your own risk.

That was the image that flashed in my mind. Something showing on the x-ray, so they have to check your luggage. They see this thing and don't know what it is, so they hold it up and loudly ask, "excuse me Ma'am, but what is this?" So everyone traveling with you sees the large glass penis shaped object you are taking with you. Imagine their thoughts if you have to hit the rest room on the plane!

Not sure why you would want to put it in your carry on. Just seems strange to me. Put it in your luggage.

I have never owned one. Do they break easily?

They are made out of the same glass as casserole dishes, pyrex. Dropping won't break, smacking someone in the head won't. You pretty much have to throw the thing against a wall

Thank you!

Almost all are not really glass. They are a usually made of a hard plastic, some just more flexible than others.

I had that same thought when I read this. Would be the most entertaining thing to watch happen to someone else at the security checkpoint, but definitely something that would be listed as a contributing factor of death by embarrassment if it happened to me [:)]

Seriously, I'd just check that stuff. I got the full TSA rundown when my sewing scissors (actually kid safety scissors I specifically purchased to meet TSA guidelines according to their rules) piqued their interest. They took my scissors out to examine and actually measure the blades before I cleared.

When I was coming home from my vacation last year, I had this silly cheap snow globe they were handing out for free on the dock in Cannes. It was in my carry on along with a lot of my other souvenirs. They had to unpack the whole thing, just to get to that, which because it was completely sealed, I hadn't given a thought to. I will admit they were really nice about it though. They seemed shocked when I told them to go ahead and throw it away.

ETA: If I were traveling with a partner, I would probably just get a guilty grin on my face and shrug my shoulders. Traveling alone, however, I would be very curious whether they thought I was meeting someone or if I just planned on staying in my hotel the whole time with myself and "my little friend."

I put things in my carryon that I don't want people touching if I'm not there. My logic was that if they're going to take it out and look at it anyway, I would rather be standing there. It's a glass penis, wouldn't embarrass me. But if it's more likely that they'll take it away from me, then I won't put it in my carryon.

So they can confiscate it even if it's in my checked luggage? Not fair :/ I won't take the one with the handle then, it looks scary.

tazzygirl -> RE: Glass toys and vibrators, airplane travel question (6/14/2013 10:02:04 AM)

There is another option, you can ship them. Just send them off the day before you go. Most times, unless you are going out of country, you can do 2 day delivery and have them the day after you arrive.

I usually don't check luggage when I travel. Depends on how long I'm gone.

I'm cheap and refuse to pay for the luggage fee to check it unless I have to.
