Yeah. When word came down that the Youth Lodge was closing, I started looking for another job. The best I could do was a part time position at the Mental Health Association. I need something full time. I really don't want to relocate, either, because I'd rather stay near the kids and the grand baby and I finally own my home with no mortgage. I got my fingerprints done last Friday. And I dropped the paperwork off for at state representative's office (if comes back faster that way) for the PA child abuse clearance on Monday. So the other job is going to be there, in fact I've talked to the peer specialist supervisor late this afternoon. She's excited to have me coming into the program (I've known her for about 20 years, ever since I was a client of the agency). The CEO is glad I'm staying as well--he knew I was looking. I do need to readjust my internal clock because I'll be going from an odd second shift of 1pm to 9pm to a straight first shift of 8:30 to 4:40. So I'll have to get up by 6 am in order to make to work each morning. I live only 10 minutes from where the Youth Lodge was located. Now I'll have to drive across town to the main office, then spend much of the day on the road traveling from client to client. So, as I think about it, a short vacation, would be nice, but it could take weeks to get the clearances back. I have nearly 200 hours of vacation time, plus most holidays are doubled. But we haven't had very many holidays yet this year and I've actually taken those days off, so those holidays are down to a single day available. I really don't want to start to from scratch again. It took me 5 years to build that time, taking a few days off here and there, sometimes a few hours here and there. Tomorrow I am going to talk with the peer specialist supervisor again, in person. I have to go to the main office anyway. She mentioned today that I might be able to shadow other peer specialists while waiting for my clearances. That way, I won't have to burn all my vacation time and I'll still get paid. I won't be doing any actual work, which is all right because I have to change my thinking any way. I'm used to doing the work of a mobile psych rehab worker. A peer specialist is totally different. Shadowing the peer specialists may help me to unlearn my previous job.
