Ohio Dept. Of Insurance: Obamacare To Increase Individual-Market Health Premiums By 88 Percent

Keep drinking that Kool Aid, folks.

At least you can still afford Kool Aid.

The increases are being blamed on the law requiring that health insurance actually cover health care and not allowing the low cost plans that gave the illusion of coverage while basically being nothing but a way to collect money from suckers. I'm completely ok with that.

Despite what Obama said, I never saw this as a way to reduce costs. In order to grapple with that we'd need to grapple with corporatism and Obama is unlikely to do that... no Republican or Democrat is likely to do that. So what I see the Affordable Care Act doing is funnelling yet more money to the health industry at gun point while expanding covering to a host of uninsured.

I'm good with that trade-off largely because any plan proposed by any republican or democrat on any topic is going to "funnel more money" to their darling industry. That is American politics. But I do like children, single moms, and yes... even single men having access to health care.

The Forbes article shoots itself in the foot and show its bias in the title. The correct name is the Affordable Care Act, not Obamacare.
And while the ACA may not be ideal, the GOP offered absolutely nothing of substance to counter it. They could have put together a plan the American people actually WANTED but instead they chose to make Obama a one term president. That didn't exactly work out for them but then the GOP hasn't never met a fact it couldn't ignore.

As for your you sig: There is a lot of non-conservitard radio available: Ed Schultz, Norm Goldman, Tom Hartman, etc. If you look closely at radio you will find that political talk in general is waning as advertisers move their dollars elsewhere. Rush and Beck were the prime cause of this - major sponsors simply do not wish to be associated with someone who would call a co-ed a "slut" because she wants her insurance company to pay for her birth control pills. At stations around the country, political talk shows are being replaced by sports talk. It's a safe, male-dominated demographic that advertisers love.

My general feeling is that people who use pejoratives and put-downs to make their point are clearly not operating from an intellectual standpoint. Whatever is going on it's emotional and visceral for them. Their intent is to manipulate not educate. So pretty much people who use terms like "geeohpee" and "Obummer" and "ObamaCare" and "teabaggers" are all pretty safely ignorable except for the impact that their emotional appeals may have on others.

For a media source to do this, as you say, indicates clearly that we are discussing propaganda here not news.

Obamacare is an acceptable term for the ACA.

And "teabagger" was 1st used by the teabaggers, before they learned of the other, more popular use of the term.

And I`m ok with those who use Obummer.......I want these folks to be bummed out.......24/7/365 if possible.

The creative rewriting of terms and titles is the LEAST of our problems of discourse.

Basic facts, honesty and revisionist history making, would be at the top of the list.

Its called 'being an adult that is mature'. Junior high school kids will name call over petty reasons; adults will address others they may not like (i.e. their bosses) with respect and dignity. I may not like the Patriot Act developed during the former George W. Bush Administration, but being a voting and mature adult, I find it important to do things properly. Now compare that with how conservatives in then nation and even on this board behave, and its night and day. We as adults deal with problems. Even the tough ones. Conservatives can not handle adult problems so they hire Republicans to systematically destroy the nation in a multiple of ways.

If the Affordable Care Act has problems, the sane and intelligent thing would be to understand what those problems are exactly and making correcting patches. In this way, the law works for Americans. If The Affordable Care Act has problems (and it does), then Congress should be working to fix the problems rather than spending taxpayer money in a endless scheme of pushing bills forward to defund the whole thing! Would have been money well spent, had Republicans sat down and figured out how to improve it for all Americans and not just the 1%. But Republicans do not care about America or her citizens, an so pushes bills they know will fail to score political points on the 'lowest information voter' in the hopes of keeping seats for the next election.

Does anyone but me expect that lots of people are just going to lie to the government to avoid the fees? After all, who here hasn't "bent" the truth on a government form at some point?

I saw the following attributed to Ben Stein; I have also seen that he denied authorship.
I don't care about that; I'm just not submitting it as my own despite my love for it.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government

that requires every citizen to prove they

are insured. . . but not everyone must

prove they are a citizen.

Many of those who refuse,

or are unable, to prove they are citizens

will receive free insurance paid for by

those who are forced to buy insurance

because they are citizens.

The foolishness embedded is that none of those will prove they are citizens.

We could give them both credit and call it rombamacare.

But I really don't see why the upset with referring to it as Obamacare. A lot of people think it it going to turn into something really good, so why should they be upset if it's named after the guy who signed it in?

At this point, who knows? But I think it's fair to say that once we know exactly how this is implemented, someone will figure out how to cheat the system. The challenge has already begun.

Obamacare includes a number of new rules for health insurance plans that will become law at the beginning of next year, or whenever existing policies expire. By extending customers' plans before then, health insurance companies and their customers can lock in health plans that don't adhere to those rules for up to one more year.

This IS if people agree to renew before Jan1.

However, since many exchanges have started posting their plans(More to come by October) it should be interesting to see how well Aetna's plan actually works. It gives business owners - who are the target for this email - 3 months to make that decision.

I'm not arguing with what you say, tazzy, but my point wasn't about the details of Aetna's plans. It was more about how people will continue to look for ways around the rules and will probably find some. I'm not ashamed to say that I would look for ways to avoid any of this just as I look for ways to avoid paying other forms of tax to the government.

Everyone will look for ways around this. And what people are finally starting to look at is the ways insurance companies are continuing to fight this. is this a viable option? Yes. However, it could come back to bite business owners in the ass the following year.
