http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-57588037-504083/george-zimmerman-trial-witnesses-must-testify-publicly-judge-rules/

"A Florida judge has denied a defense request to let a handful of witnesses testify confidentiality during George Zimmerman's trial for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin.

Zimmerman's attorney asked the judge Thursday to allow the witnesses to give their testimony out of the public's eye.

Defense attorney Mark O'Mara says the witnesses have concerns for their safety about testifying at the trial, which starts next week. He says their testimony could impact the jury's decision.

Prosecutors and attorneys for media groups objected to the request.

"What happens in court is open to the public - it is public property," said Orlando Sentinel attorney Rachel Fugate. "Witnesses don't get to come to court to testify anonymously unless there are very compelling reasons for the witness to do so."

O'Mara suggested that certain witnesses could be shielded from view, but prosecutors said concealing their identities could "highlight witnesses' testimony when it shouldn't be highlighted" for the jury."

The Zimm defense has also lost a motion to suppress voice expert testimony calling it "voodoo" forensics......

Guess that means it goes against them.....

They have also lost motions to delay the trial.....

That's bollocks. Children appear as witnesses and are shielded from view. The only Constitutional issue is that the defendent be allowed to confront witnesses against him.

Well that different. Obviously.

Oh, God. Here we go again. Is there any chance we can simply let this trial play out before everyone starts throwing poop? The insanity this case has created in some of you boggles the mind.

I hope this trial isn't going to be on t.v. for months like that "OJ" trial.
Some guy shot another guy in *Florida* so the whole country has to be subjected to it?
This should be local news and nothing more.

Powergamz1 -> RE: So it begins..... (6/6/2013 3:52:52 PM)

Since there was no ruling on audio forensics issued today, please provide some proof of your assertion that the defense lost.

It would have been, if the police had simply arrested the jackass responsible

From another article(find it yourself) where the defense wanted to exclude testimony that`s already been made about the few audio tapes that there are.

The Zimms called the audio forensic expert`s findings "voodoo forensics" which I`m pretty sure is not an endorsement.

It contradicts what the Zimms are claiming which is why they are attacking it and/or attempting to exclude it.

But it will be presented by the prosecution.

Another Zimmy loss.....

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/fox-guests-go-after-zimmerman-attys-motion-to-ban-inflammatory-terms-in-trial-a-question-of-fact/

Where they`re seeking to ban certain words and phrases including describing how he got out of his car after being advised not to.

Some of the words the Zimms waned to bar.

Profile

Vigilante

Self appointed neighborhood watchman

Wannabe cop

But they lost that one too.

They did, and the State Prosecutor decided not to press charges and released Zimm the day of the shooting.

Good point rob.

I blame the brass on that one. Not the local police.

Well, if it's supposed to be a three week trial, we might be done with it by the 4th of July. Let's hope we aren't in the middle of a national heat wave when they announce the verdict. What it should be, and what it is, are different things.

My opinion is that Zimmerman should have stayed in the fucking car. I hope the jury convicts him of manslaughter. Maybe, before everybody forgets about it, some will take a moment to contemplate why a black teenager being shot dead only gets a moments notice if he's shot by a white guy (even if the white guy isn't all that white).

Owner59 -> RE: So it begins..... (6/6/2013 8:36:29 PM)

Maybe, before everybody forgets about it, some will take a moment to contemplate why stories about black teenagers being shot dead by another black teens only gets mentioned by cons when a white guy kills a black kid (even if the white guy isn't all that white).

Or when 20 white kids are killed all at once in Conn.....we hear all this fake concern about the black kids who`re killed in Chicago....and fake outrage as to why we don`t mention that(even tho we do.....constantly)

Powergamz1 -> RE: So it begins..... (6/6/2013 11:15:58 PM)

It contradicts what the FBI and other legitimate audio examiners have testified to in affidavits. It comes from a self proclaimed expert who cant explain how he works to the satisfaction of the scientific community.

And Florida is still a Frye standard state.

The judge did not hand Zimmerman a loss today on the motion to exclude those woo-woo claims, as the link I posted proves.

Your claim that the prosecution will be bringing that particular 'expert' in because the judge denied Zimmerman's Frye motion remains untrue at this time, and you wouldn't be hiding behind the tired old 'Find it yourself' dodge if you had any proof.

Looks like they lost that one... from your source.

quote:

SANFORD, Fla. —The judge in the murder trial of George Zimmerman has denied a motion from the defense to delay the trial six weeks, and the trial is still set to begin June 10.

That part he was correct on as well.

quote:

Judge Debra S. Nelson has not yet ruled on the “inflammatory terms” motion. She recently ruled defense lawyers, in their opening statements, would not be permitted to mention pictures of drugs and guns found on Martin's cellphone.

Yes, but children get to testify in camera because they are children. These people are adults and this isn't some trial where witnesses are going to need to enter the witness protection program after.

However, I do think the judge should have ordered that ALL civilian witnesses must have their faces obscured in news reports. There are too many heated opinions on both sides and the witnesses do not need to be subjected to harassment from people, which is undoubtedly going to happen.

Thanks, Lucy. I was never really that optimistic anyway but I felt I had to try. Now, if you'll please excuse me, I'm going to go find a thread worth reading.
