The precedent was established in 1874.... you should know that.

well the precedent was established for burning witches at the stake too, so what?

Yep.... thats why they got the law changed from children being the "property" of the parents to the parents being responsible.

yes changed to property of the state.

its expected to have jurisdiction over property.

Property of the state when neglected or abused by the parents. [;)]

what about people who are abused and neglected by the state can they come and live with you too?

I just posted a thread about a milwaukee cop that shot a dude because he was threatening suicide with a knife. how is parens patria workin for ya?

There is a difference between a man with a knife and a child who is helpless against the abuse or neglect.

When it is about medical care, it is in most cases due to one's religious belief!!!!!
This is the reason in many of the trials cases where a child has die or has been severely left with
no medical attention when it was critical to the health and welfare of the child,

I do not know of any cases where, medical attention was no given and it was not because of religious
belief!! If this is true someone please bring something that shows this is not true, it is just plain abuse when
the cause not religion!
Also this will be in the category of real or imagine religion, ie cults etc.!

ok so how does that work with a state with a gun and an adult who is helpless against the abuse or neglect.

A 26 year-old Air Force Spouse is in jail after allegedly letting her 22-month old daughter die of malnutrition and neglect, say officials in Fort Worth, Texas. Her two other girls, one three years old and one aged six months, are in intensive care recovering from severe neglect.

And you really want to say that if its not in the name of religion, then its abuse? That may not be what you meant. I am hoping not.

This aspect isn't just with faith healing, it can be directed at every part of your life. The biggest fight I ever had with my Mother-in-Law, who was an extremely devoted Southern Baptist, was when she pulled this crap with my wife. Linda was diagnosed with cancer, and the first words out of her Mom's mouth when she heard was, You must have done something really awful for God to punish you like that.

I have no problem with religion, even though I'm not really religious myself. If you want to pray rather then see a doctor, that's your choice, but if your choice impinges on the health and/or welfare of someone else, especially a minor, then it's no longer a case of religious freedom.

That would have been enough for me to evict her from my life. I have many thoughts on the whole thing, but they really don't belong on this thread.

I assume your wife is in remission and doing well? I hope so.

If tazzy would like to search for such cases, I will leave that to her. However, I can assure you that many people sadly don't provide proper medical care for their children without any religious (or cult) reasons. In all cases, religion, cult or not, it is "plain abuse." Using religion is nothing more than an affirmative defense on the issue.

The reason you don't hear about it as often is because there are thousands more abuse cases than what you read about or see on the news. Sad, but true. The media picks and chooses those that are more dramatic for ratings. Also sad.
